I'm currently at the point where I've replaced the motor, ESC and batteries in my Apache so it's plenty fast but I'll need to drop another $100 on a new flex shaft, strut and rudder system. My question to you fine people is do I spend the $100 on the new parts, then spend the time and money to gut the boat and fiberglass the inside and hope for the best or should I just get another boat altogether? The other boat would be this one - http://www.novahobby.com/brushless-mini-deep-racing-boat-p-97.html

There is a certain appeal to the deep v as I hear it's self-righting if taped up properly. What do you guys think?

I'd more than likely convert my apache into a rescue boat if I got the other boat.

Why not look at this one as an option too

http://www.minicatracingusa.com/vmono.html

or this one

http://www.minicatracingusa.com/vcat.html

the cat will handle rough water better and the mono will only self right its self if the weight balance is correct.

get/build another one. I have read lots of complaints about how the apache handles. This is the exact reason I built mine out of balsa/ply - at the same dimensions. Here is a couple vids of how she handles:

2S: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rb6j8VSgYsY

and for kicks I tried 3S: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FS1xrUMXo-o

I have the plans I used and can help describe the set up better if anyone wants. Could even use whatever components you have in your apache now (except the steerable outdrive)

OK, I decided to keep the stock drivetrain setup and cut the insides out to accomidate 2 - 2s 5000mha, wired them in parallel to a 35 amp ESC powering a 3,549 RPM brushless motor. Here's a crappy vid from my cell phone.

Jessie, that's a sweet looking boat you built there. The main problem with the Apaches not being stable is that the battery placement is too high, making it flip easy. Mine hasn't flipped since I've been using the double battery setup.

can you guys post some pics of the inside setup of your apaches?
