2nd Wet w/38x55

Thinking that the 38x55 would be more flighty than the stock prop I placed the GPS up front between the batteries. The boat handled great but seemed a bit too glued. I moved the GPS to the back and she rode much better (46.5mph).

When making a very wide turn (and stupidly trying to go around a wake) the boat shut down. Seems I went too far and lost signal (?).

After retrieving her with the tug, which took a very long time, everything worked OK. I will try again tomorrow and keep her closer.

Tell me that I am not the first person to do this... I sure have a lot to learn...:doh:

Come to think of it mine has done that as well, but picked right back up. I was thinking ESC. Your radio didn't work at all afterwards?

Actually no. However, when I got it back to shore I gave it a try and everything worked ???. I hope it wasn't the ESC. Previous temps were very low. Batteries still had mucho charge... so I am not really sure.

I will see what tomorrow brings...

If it is a radio distance problem try new batteries and keep the boat a little closer to shore .

But if it is the esc or caps next time boat dies way out on pond try rearming the radio to esc just like you do on shore. An esc with a bad cap will rearm then you can drive it back to shore. If boat continues to die add more caps.

Thanks Detox, but this thing has only been in the water a few times. I did however run it down to the LVC on the first run. The second run seemed OK. All temps seemed low (ESC 96). Maybe tomorrow will bring something to light...

BTW, I followed your lead and purchased a bunch of caps (rubycon), but I don't see anything visibly wrong yet.

Also, currently I am on a big lake and not experienced at distance for rc.

More then one person in this forum has had problems JUST like that and it turned out to be the ESC... it was faulty from factory... talk to the Hobby Services if the problems persists.

Saturday...mine died about 1 second into the take off. It wouldn't rearm until I unplugged and reconnected the battery. That is the first time in many, many miles of use. Hope it isn't a sign of things to come. :popcorn2:

I did notice that this time when I plugged in the batteries the receiver continued to beep instead of a single one. A pull of the trigger produced the single beep I was looking for and everything seemed to work in the beginning. Not sure if this means anything.

Dial in more throttle trim...it should fix it.

I have run my boat out of range of few times. When it looses signal it is dead on the water. I had to wait for the wind to blow it closer before it re-armed the ESC. Weak Transmitter batteries will shorten the distance too, so check the voltage on them from time to time. I try to keep my boat at 100yds or less... preferably 75yds or less.

What is the safe distance of the 2.4Ghz system on the UL-1, I've had the same issues you guys are talking about?

I wouldn't venture out past that with less than new batteries in the Transmitter. You shouldn't be running a boat further than that anyway as you can't see obstacles in the water.

I took everyone’s advice and had 3 nice runs and no shut down problems. 46.5 is about the best I can get with this 38x55 prop. It is a nice prop, but believe that the UL-1 needs more. I am basing this on ride and acceleration out of the turns.

My temps are low. The highest being the motor at 126 (measured at the terminals entrance; lower elsewhere). ESC high is 102 at the cap and the output end is somewhat lower. Maybe boring out those water fittings did some good.

I am moving on to the L38x63… :smile:

Try the Octura m440...using my new Hyperion 25c 2s packs UL1 reached 50mph with that prop. I got too much chine walk when I tried the L38 x 63, but it may have been the water conditions. My fav is the Grimracer L40 x 57/3.

I think the X640 might be the ticket for the UL-1. The X645 was WAY too much, the 642 was great for less then three minutes (motor to warm) but speeds were up there. I think someone should give the X640 a try??? just an idea..

the m440 didn't have the umpf that the 38x55 and the 642 had for me. I think the 640 would work very nice in this boat. Anyone try it yet?

I might try it today i have a 642 that measures 39mm But i want to try my 637 first but i have to finish S&B
