I just came home from a short run with my Lizard Extreme. Normally I use a 10XL, but this time I tried out a 7XL and the capasitor(s) on my etti 150 explode and the hatch got blown off and sank. My question: what do I do with the esc? can I just test if it works without the capasitors? And how do I fix it? I see OE have the capasitor bank..? Blease help me out. I used a 442 prop when it happend and the gps showed 72 km/h.

Picture of the boat gets blown up. Got it on tape.

Got any pics from the inside and hardware setup ? How many cells , voltage, lipo?

My lizard runs with a xl9 , 6s lipo and old ETTI 125Amp 30v version 42x55 grimracer or 45K Prop , so far so good, warm and fast .

You used too much motor and pulled far too many amps. The ESC is damaged, don't try to run it without the caps. You can try to send it in to the maker for repair, but it is probably trash.

That 7XL is far too much motor for 6S - and for most 4S applications as well, especially in that hull. How many cells were you running?

It runs on 4s lipo HiModel 14,8V, 4000mA, 25C.

Oh dear,

The lipo's will only give you 100 amps constant!

You will need to change the motor or fit a gear box to lower your amp draw and purchase at least 5000 Mah 30c rated lipos = 150 amp draw constant.:thumbup1:

Then I will change the motor, but what will you guys say is the best setup for this kind of hull? And can you please tell me how to calculate how much amp the lipo can deliver? I am in the learning phase here and I am learning the hard way...:tongue_smilie:

But I have seen videos of for example HPR115 with 2x7xl and 120A esc, how will this work? Thanks for all the feedback:smile:

You got a xl10 then use it with 6s lipo 5000mah x 20c = 100amps starting with a 45mm K-prop and a 48mm K-prop or a 45mm metal pitch 1.4 .

Be sure the cables from the lipos to the ESC are very short and a 125Ampesc is enough .

Please post pics from youre Lizard , hardware etc.

First off, don't believe everything you see or read on the Internet. That video may have listed the wrong equipment, or the setup may have blown up ten seconds after the video quit. How the boat is run matters too, you can sometimes get away with a hot setup for a short run time.

It was a 11xl, not 10. But if I use the 11xl together with a turnigy 180A esc and a 5000mA 6s lipo (20-30C) it should work fine? I should probably buy me a telemetry system aswell. I also have a NEU/CC combo laying here, maybe I just should go with that:tongue_smilie:

Does anyone knows how mutch the ampdraw on 11XL and 9XL is? I was thinkin about this setups:

Feigao 11XL
Turnigy Marine 180A
Himodel 4S1P 4000mA 25C
X442 or smaller/bigger?

Feigao 9XL
Turnigy Marine 180A
Himodel 4S1P 4000mA 25C
X442 or smaller/bigger?

I have a 11XL and my brother have a 9XL on the way from OE. We will also buy a datalogger to find out the ampdraw. Anyone have any recommendations to datalogger? Is it the Eagletree people here use to fine the ampdraw?

Thank you

This is what i would do and not running them on 4s lipo

XL9 on 6s lipo, prop x442 or 45K-prop
XL11 on 6s lipo, prop bigger then a x442 at least a 48k prop or similar in metal.

And keep the + - cables between the ETTI esc and the Lipos very short they are to long and another advise the watercoolingtube has to past first by the Esc and then the motor because the motor gets hotter then the esc so now the esc get warmer from the water from the motor.

Hi, I will buy 6s lipo for my 11XL but I have plans driving to the weekend and I dont have 6S, but I have the 4S lipo. Will the ampdraw be to big for my lipo on this motor? And how about 9XL?

Just me maybe but a 9XL is not really what I would run 6S on. 11 or 12 is a better bet with a decent sized prop. Less amps more torque. 4S is fine on a 8XL or 9Xl but again, watch the size prop. 442 to 642 should be fine but it also depends on set up which we do not know how you run.

Those are both fine set ups.

Hate to say it BUT COOL PIC!! :)

Thanks for your input:smile: I just have to laugh and cry at the same time when I see the picture..and the movie... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bK5NL0Z5RwQ I think it sound to much with 6S on 9XL aswell. Maybe we drive 4S on 9XL and 5S on 11XL. Or maybe I just buy a 9XL so I have the same motor as the other guys and we all drive 4S. How much amp do you think that setup will draw? over 100A?

I have been trashed for saying this before but buy an amp, voltage and temperature monitoring device. This device is in inexpensive and will save you money in the long term. Also start with a small prop and cells at least 20% below the max for the ESC and motor and as Fluid stated do not believe everything you read or see on the internet, as some silly setups will result in a destroyed boat. There are experienced racers...not me...who can run hot setups, as they run the boat dry and know the limitations of certain equipment.

EagleTree is on its way from OE, at last... together with 440 prop. Now we will take it slow. Its time to learn all of this.

You are safe with that set up...should be able to handle that with a 80 amps ESC actually but I would stay 100 or above.

Heck, the SV set up is only rated for 45 amps and very few problems with them the UL1 ESC is pretty dencent too at 60 amps.

Lol i had the same thing happen with my Lizard Xtreme blew the caps and lost my hatch i sent the esc back to Etti and Dee replaced it free of charge he suggested to run the cap board it is now running strong and hard MHZ boats rock, here is a video from a couple of days ago

Wow, thats awesome. What setup do you have? Then I must try to send it to Dee and see if he can fix the esc. Do you have some contact information? thanks

Adrian this is one of the best monos I 've seen running. Stable and fast!

I have blown 2 Ettis 150 2-7s, one with extra caps one without. Probably due to a little extra wire. Sent back one (other is in trash) and waiting to see. Keep your battery wires as short as possible.

Hi Disar thanks that's a big compliment:smile::thumbup: I always get a buzz running this boat,no trim tabs or turn fins and it's so stable with no bad habits :beerchug:

Now I am very confused:confused1: I got this new Turnigy Marine 180A, and once I started it very easily the esc got smoked. This was with 11XL and 4000mA 4S 25/45C. What is wrong or what do I do wrong?

It sounds like you have a battery to ESC to motor connection problem, or a defective battery, as I note this is the same battery you had before. What prop?

Its the same battery as last time. It was a 442 prop, but I didn`t drive. I just tested at home, and when I barely pushed the throtle it got a lot of smoke.

Is that possible, that its just shortening under load? and not all the time... Should I try to buy new battery and esc and just try again? The motor cant be the problem?

I would try another motor before doing anything else. You have some bad windings or something like that. Test your pack voltage. I tend to doubt the cells are bad as they would probably cook if they had issues of any kind.
