View Full Version : Dropping the bottom for motor/cooling jacket clearance

My 31 " H&M shovel had the motor mount and shaft installed when I got it. When I installed the motor it was so close to the bottom of the hull that there was no clearance for a cooling jacket. Got a 90 degree plastic pipe elbow [for 1- 1/2 " pipe], worked it to fit. Will use 3M 5200 to attach, max bonding strength, waterproof, takes a week to cure but will never let loose or leak. Hopefully the aerodynamic effect will be minimal considering that there's an air dam in front of the hull disrupting the airflow. We'll see !

Good idea to use the elbow. I have seen people make belly pans before, but yours looks almost stock.

Thanks Steven. Boy did I hate to put the hull "under the knife", but this solution seemed pretty sano.
