I was charging my ep4200's (2x 6-cells) at 5 amps. first one completed. Started the second one, walked away for a few minutes, (okay an hour) when I got back the charger was dead. The AC input is 120VAC the output of the transformer is under 2VAC. The problem is the transformer. the thing is only about a month old, but I did mod it a bit. What to do?

It's a Vision Peak Ultra (http://www.dynamiterc.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=DYN4053).

Mods are...
Cut the AC input, Installed sockets in order to remove the cord when not in use.
Installed one of these...

It's just a BAD day for me.
Couldn't run the Bud, because work sent me out till after sunset.
Lipo discharged beyond min voltage, now it's trash.
Now my charger is dead.

Box, No.
Receipt, I think so.
Do you think they'll honor the warranty after the modding I did to it? You've seen it Dirty, What do you think?

Did you check the water, choke it? LOL!

sounds like some of the secondary winding insulation has been compromised.....(shorting) this can be caused and relieved by temperature....the primary and secondary are wound together, tranformation takes place when the magnetic field induces flux on the ferrite core...........ah, forget it...you need a new one!

Wow. It works on DC input.

Odd

not the transformer, the regulator works on DC.

I'm not quite to this point yet

transformer theory is easy...the input / output are a direct relation to number of winds, IE: 4 input winds to 3 output winds equals a 4 to 3 step-down and vice versa for a step-up.

Piranha2,
You sound very knowledgeable in things transformer. Can I send it to you for repair?

Transformers are AC (not DC). It needs to be AC to create the EMF-electro-magnetic-force (or field). Then they rectify the AC into a DC voltage (this is where your DC input goes to) and then they regulate it.

Just please be careful around the capacitors (look like cans) because they pack a good punch even after your charger has been off for awhile.

yeah, so is mine:confused: ......I deal with this all day, every day.......except its usually an acoustic-optical-modulator:cool:

I almost forgot.....Diego, send it back because usually the OEM of the transformer will reimburse the seller of the charger.

Back to the MFG or LHS?

Piranha2

try LHS first see what they say then the MFG.......it's worth the effort......I've gotten alot of help just by asking.

I'll be bringing it back to the LHS tomorrow.
Thanks guys!

acoustic-optical-modulator:cool:
A WHAT? what does that do?

Piranha2

Jeepers, it will allow a certain wavelength of light pass thru when modulated by a specific radio frequency. In other words, it's a part of a laser.
