Guys, just looking at options for Sport running, so I am not concerned with which class I would need to run in.

The question is:
4S with 8XL motor or
6S with 12XL motor

These two setups have very similar rpm but do they have similar torque, or is the 6S option producing more torque due to the higher voltage?

The 6S will give me less amp draw and longer run times, but will the power & tourque be the same, ie - similar sizes props?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

What is the length of the boat? The 6s weight more than the 4s.
The amps on 6s will be less and speed-power will be similar with same prop. but with 6s you can put bigger prop. for more speed.
If the boat is upto 33" use 4s, over that 6s

Both of these guys know that I respect thier opinion and work well with them.
The big question I have is what sort of hull are you talking about powering.

A big issue i have is the length of Cats in particular.
Some are measured to the sponson rear and some are overall length.

A mono will have a lot different power requirements than a Hydro for example.

If you have a hull in mind then let us know what it is and there are many here who can help you choose a power system and set it up.

I agree. Please note also that many Delta Forces 33" in here are 4s.

the main reason that I have not mentioned the Hull is that it is my SV27 and I know that nearly all will say "4S OnlĂ˝", but my logic is with move volts, the amps drop, I have already changed the ESC to a 100 amp unit that will cope with 6S.

I am about to purchase either - a, an 8XL and run 4S, or some more lipos and go to 6S only.

To me 6S is saying less amps and more run times, is there a downside.

I guess it's like driving a V8, the 4cyl will do the job, but the V8 will just do it a bit easier with less load on the components.

I still only want the same prop speeds, that is why I have mentioned the 12Xl.

The added weight of the two extra lipo cells will if anything help the SV sit in the water better as well.

I can't really see a downside to the 6S option - hence the thread, if I am looking at it wrong, please tell me.

Oh yes the 6s will make the SV more stable. I would try 6s. Sometimes extra weight is required as in this case.

have run 6s in 25-27 inch hulls lots of fun, you will also pick up more torque and then be able to use larger props compared to a 4s setup

for sport run, def more "S" is always beter.

:iagree: I ran my mean machine on 8s1p with a geared (1.22:1) 12xl last year and loved it. Good run times of 3-4 min., reasonable esc (120), motor and battery temps (135) , and pretty good speed with an M440 prop at 57.2mph.

Here's a couple pics and a link to the thread where I posted the first vid of it running on 8s, it previously ran 24 nimh with an X642 and only made 47.6 mph.
I've made some adjustments and it now handles much better than in the vid.
