By the way JAY if you go on www.modelpowerboats.com you will find the answers to the problem with your Black Jack boat. I think that prop needs to be much deeper. Check it out !!!

We also had good time. Hopefull more people from from CT. will chime in so we can get a group going. I have already scoped out the perfect spot for your high speed run. Its in Middletown right off of Rt. 17.

Can you give me the name of that battery supplier again?

Gary
04-06-2009, 09:14 PM
Its WWW.RCLIPOS.COM There is a huge selection of batteries. You can order online or call Pat direct. Tell him Gary that burns up batteries said to call. He will know exactly who i am LOL:biggrin: I guess im just going to wait for good weather at the quary lake to make the fast run . I feel much safer there and have access to the baot anywhere around it if it blows over. I just need a calm morning. I will watch the weather for this sat. or sunday. 70+ here i come !!!

Are you still planning on running boats this Saturday?

The Afternoon looks better than the morning.

Will also need some directions.

Gary
04-09-2009, 09:28 PM
I dont know. The wind forcast seems to be a little high and this place tends to be windy in the afternoon. I might try early sun. morning. I will have to wait and see.

Sunday is a no can do with Easter upon us. I did run the UL tonight, check out the thread under UL-1 I just posted.

Thanks for the Corrosion-X on the receiver, I took it home that day and put it on top of the Plasma Screen. Not too hot, just warm, seem to dry it out and works like new.

Just got back from the big lake. Boat made a pass that was faster than i have ever seen...well into 70mph but was cut short buy a blow over at 69 mph. I was thrilled and the blow over was spectacular !!!!!!!!! you would have loved it. Plus my new boat took its maiden voyage at 44 mph . Water was like glass but it was getting to dark and i could not see anymore. I will see what this weekend looks like. Buy the way its exit 23 off route 8......... Its the O&G quary in Oxford.

slyman
04-13-2009, 09:17 PM
How does this Saturday look for you at the Quarry?

I hit 51 today at the pond, I think I could have gone faster but I ran out of water. I could tell because of the sharp spikes recorded in the data logger indicate that I was still accelerating.

I think I can get 4-8 more MPH if I remove the turn fin but I don't know how squirlly the boat will be without it and forget about making a turn.

Gary
04-14-2009, 10:26 AM
dont worry about the fin, it will turn slow but it will stay stable. But i would just cut it down like i did....it will help

Gary
04-17-2009, 03:00 PM

I would like to see your new baby run.

Gary
04-22-2009, 10:08 PM
Stan ...this weekend is no good. Forgot i will be away. Do you want to try something like on a tues, wed, thurs night. Get there at 6:00 or so ....sun doesnt go down untill around 7:45 and wind usually dies down. Just a thought.

slyman
04-23-2009, 10:15 PM
Things are off the hook at work, I've been putting in serious hours. I could tentatively shoot for Thursday but no guarantees with the way things are going at work.

Gary
04-23-2009, 10:21 PM
Hey these days having alot of work is a good thing right? At my dealership i think we are the only ones that have a ton of work. Amen to that!! No problem just let me know. Ps ..I just painted the boat you saw a bright red and made a new cowl ...wait till you see it!!!!

Gary
04-27-2009, 09:47 PM
Stan ....looks like Wed. the 29 there will only be 2- 4 mph winds that night . Im going to be there at about 6:30 - 6:45 . It should be calm i hope.

slyman
04-28-2009, 07:07 AM
Can you please give me the directions again. I lost the paper I wrote them on.

Gary
04-28-2009, 05:48 PM
For me its Exit 23 going North on Route 8. I come down route 34 and jump on 8 to get there. Its the O@G Quary. Take Left off exit and follow over a bridge and take first left. Follow down road and on left side its the only opening to get in. Walk across rail road track and there you are. Its 2 min. off exit. CAREFULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Rail road line is still active

slyman

slyman
04-30-2009, 08:42 PM
Jay and I went out tonight -it was windy but the boats handled it. I ran the four zippys at once, two pairs in parallel. The boat ran well and motor ran way cooler than it did last night.

Gary
05-01-2009, 09:32 PM

Gary
05-11-2009, 02:43 PM
ooops ....crashed it real good. Had to put guts in a new hull. Its a better hull "i hope" but its a half pound heavier. I will try and test tonight. We have to get togather soon.

slyman
05-17-2009, 06:18 AM
Maybe the weight will keep you prop down in the water. Jay got a new motor for his rig. When do you think you will be ready to try yours out?

I just got this message today, don't know what happened to my e-Mail.

Gary
05-19-2009, 11:33 PM
Took a long time to figure this new hull out. Had to make sponson pads just to ballance this new hulls ride on the water. But just came back tonight and it stays in the water ...........more often then not.........and went a 71mph to start so i am happy the bugs are almost out. I just orderd the new 40-80c batteries and think i can get close to 80mph. Wait till you see this thing go, it flys.....sometimes literaly. LOL Hope you guys get all your stuff sorted out so we can meet soon.

slyman
05-20-2009, 06:49 AM
Sounds like you've got a winner. How does it do in the turns?

Jay's ESC won't be in for at least another week. I have a major audit going on but should be free Fiday evening and Saturday morning.l Let me know if you want to get together, what time, your pond or mine, it doesn't matter.

Gary

So far Fiday the wind looks a little high..........who knows. I have to work Sat. and have a party after that. Plus my batts wont be here till friday evening. How about early monday morning.....you guys dont have to work right? I will keep checking the weather. I need dead flat water with a lot of room and this time of year is a pain with the wind.

Gary
05-24-2009, 08:46 AM
Yes i am. I am going to be there around 7:00-7:30 ...hopefully no wind. I at least want to get in two good flat water runs to test the new batteries and then have some fun runs after that. Might even try tonight .

slyman
05-24-2009, 04:46 PM
Great, we'll see you tomorrow around 7:00.

slyman
05-25-2009, 12:07 PM
Great day lots of fast runs and spectacular fly overs. The epoxy I used was for structural applications. West Marine #9223157 (655-K) the only drawback is that it takes about 7 hrs to set up and 24 hours to fully cure. The advantage is that when fully cured it is rock solid and strong.

slyman
05-29-2009, 06:46 AM
Gary, What are your plans for this weeked?

Gary
05-29-2009, 12:14 PM
NOTHING. Boat is destroyed. Hit a "the" log to the left at the pond, nothing i could do. GPS was at 75 when she finally got on plane. She was headed for mid 80s again for sure. Im SICK.

slyman
05-29-2009, 09:31 PM
Just when you get a boat that you know will work well for you.
Does anybody make a titanium hull maybe

Gary
06-02-2009, 10:28 PM
Cant get another hull so i am patching it back up. OHWELL. Hopefully will see the pond this weekend.

slyman
06-03-2009, 12:30 PM
Its no fun trying to put all those pieces back together again but ya do what ya gotta do.

I'll be away for a week. We can't hit the water until some parts to come in. Hopefull they will be in today or Thrusday before I leave.

If the weather holds out we will try our stuff out in Wallingford after work, Ill give you a call if its a go.

Did you look into the West Marine resin system I told you about?

Gary

Wheres my ct boys. Im ready to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let me know

slyman
06-16-2009, 10:12 PM
Just got back from Vacation this weekend. Jay got a 180 amp ESC and a 2700 KV motor for the UL. The thing kept melting the solder off the Deans connectors so he switched to 4mm bullet connectors that we had on hand that also melted the solder.

We might be in the market for some batteries at this time. We should talk.

Did you get Humpty Dumpty together again or did you get a new Hull?

How does Saturday sound if the weather holds? Wallingford or Oxford?

Gary
06-16-2009, 11:07 PM
Oh man i have to work this sat. Let me figure a time out thats good for all. Man the UL will fly with a 2,700 kv . BTW...........take a look in the video section and look under Miss attitude 80 mph run.Humpty Dumpty lives!!!!!!!!!

Nice job.
Are you ready for the VOODOO Prop? Maybe you'll break a 100.

Gary
07-14-2009, 07:41 PM
Have both boats done. Shooting for this Saturday at Beacon Falls if weather is good.

slyman
07-14-2009, 10:04 PM
Jay and I had a serious collisions with each other last week. We're both rebuilding our sponsons. I don't know if we'll be ready by Saturday but may we can come and see those babies run. I'll call you later this if the weather cooperates.

Gary
07-14-2009, 10:25 PM
oh no..what happened. Did they take on water?

slyman
07-15-2009, 07:08 AM
We were on a new lake that was at least 4 times larger than where we usually go. We were about 100 feet from each other, I began to turn and Jay cut the corner and T-Boned me. My cowl is slightly damaged and there are a bunch of stress fractures on the sponsons. Jay has severe damage to one of his sponsons, the glue let go in the front of the sponsons where the top and bottom half meet.

I took in water because my cowl was damaged. Have not checked to see if the boat is working electricly yet.

slyman

jGary,

How's it looking for this weekend, let me know.

Gary
08-01-2009, 04:36 PM
Hey bud....well it was looking good. I orderd a new prop that could put me near 100mph . All my stuff came , and when i went to test everything before i packed it up,my servo was not responing correctly. Then the reciever died. Found out the rechargable batteries that i use the connections rusted and must have shorted out so now i have to order a reciever and another battery pack. I might rigg up some used back up stuff only because i really want to see if the prop works but that coud be a recipe for disaster because there will be no failself so probably next week on a sunday i can do, i have work saturday.

slyman
08-01-2009, 06:37 PM
Let me know if its a go for next weekend, any word on those batteries you were talking about?

Gary
08-04-2009, 12:38 PM
Stan.....I think what i will do is go to my pond real early Sun. morning to make some SAW runs with the yellow boat because its safer there as far as access plus i am familer with the water there. Then i will head over to your middletown lake with the red boat and meet up with you guys.

slyman
08-04-2009, 05:57 PM
What time are you going to Oxford? We'll meet you there.

Regarding Middletown; Jay and I both hit something that bent our turn fins. Let's hold off on M'town until we find out what and exactly where it is. It must have happened with all the rain we got, I know it wasn't there before. We will try to remove whatever it is when we find it.

Gary
08-05-2009, 10:39 PM
Oh ..ok i will get there around 7:00-7:15. Hopefully no one is fishing. Weather looks to be good. See you there.Ive been talking to my boat every night so i think its ready to crack 90mph LOL

slyman
08-20-2009, 07:22 AM

Gary
08-20-2009, 10:05 AM

Gary: What the name of place you get your lipos from? I'm getting ready to make a move.

slyman
08-31-2009, 07:29 AM
Gary.

Are you planning on running any time during the long weekiend?

Gary
09-08-2009, 10:00 PM
Just read your post.....day late and a dollar short !!!! Anyhow you guys have a day thats good?

slyman
09-11-2009, 07:01 PM
Looks like Saturday morning is a washout, Maybe next week. How does it look for you?

Gary
09-19-2009, 04:01 PM
Both boats are dead . Went to check ESC in fast boat tonight and she smoked a little than died. I will have to wait for new replacements from castle.

slyman
09-20-2009, 02:31 AM
Bummer about the ESC. I also was a sad recipient of the dreaded Magic smoke yesterday.

I was trying out the new Lipos from Pat. Everything was going great, I started with the small props and worked my way up always checking the temps and then going to the next higher prop. The boat hauld and was throwing a monster rooster tail. I was happy with the results.

I had one more prop to try, a 642, went out about a half a lap, the boat was flying. Then the dreaded magic smoke puffed out of the boat and I was dead in the water. Won't be using that prop again.

Will you be ready to run this Saturday? Let me know.

Gary
09-24-2009, 10:36 PM
No im still waiting for another red Formula hull....I wont even get into that storey untill i see you LOL . Sat and Sun i think i will make 1 run very early in the morning. I only have 1 shot at breaking 100mph each morning because i only have 1 pair of batteries. I put alot of work into the yellow boat and i need to post 100mph or better. This is a expensive game with myself but i know i can do it. So no sense in meeting up without my Red boat. Hopefully next Sun.???

slyman
09-25-2009, 07:49 PM
Jay just got some new batteries and their charging now, nice and slow. Will have to do some soldering first thing in the morning. We will try to get there around 8:00. Hope to see you there providing its not raining.

Gary
09-28-2009, 10:06 PM
lm am waiting for new Red boat hull so i can run with you guys..still havent told you that storey , but the good news is Yellow boat went 102mph. I cooked the esc and had a blow over but i didnt care. Anyhow I should be good to go 2nd week of October the 10th or 11th because i dont have to work.

slyman
10-01-2009, 06:05 PM
102 that's great. When are you going to go for an official run? On another note: It stinks when you get the magic smoke, it really does stink, and its hard to get rid of the smell.

Oxford or Dooly Pond in Middletown? Are we on for both days and what time? Let me know.

Gary
10-04-2009, 10:24 PM
Sat. or Sun. should be no problem as long as my new hull comes in so i can build it. Let me know what day.Can be there around 8:00am and what ever pond you want, dosent matter because i will have just the red boat . If its Dooley i need directions because i can not find an address for it.

slyman
10-05-2009, 12:07 PM
Lets shoot for Saturday, if the weather stinks Sunday. 8:00am sounds good. I hope the weather will be good for at least one of those days.

Gary
10-05-2009, 09:48 PM
Ok great. What Lake do you want to meet at?

slyman
10-06-2009, 05:27 PM
Gary,

Lets go with Saturday, 8:00am in Oxford. See you there.

Gary
10-08-2009, 10:13 PM
Wind looks a little high so we will have to hope for the best. Boat just came in so im all set to go!!!

Gary
10-11-2009, 12:59 PM
Well this sucks..I just got booted out of the lake for trespassing to close to the railroad tracks! I have to call O@G and see what can be done about geting to the lake without crossing the tracks.

slyman
10-11-2009, 07:54 PM
Were you able to boat before they gave you the boot? Jay and I went riding around Saturday before you got there. There may be a way to get to the pond with out crossing the tracks. We spotted a gate but did not get out of the car to see if the gate was locked. We can only hope it is not.

Was the access blocked off? Were you confronted by a live person? what will happen if you are caught there again?

We never tried Crystal Lake in Meriden, maybe we should give it a chance. The place is not to far from the Berlin Turnpike.

Gary
10-12-2009, 07:02 AM
The cops came and gave me a warning. Its not the pond itself but the fact that you have to cross the railroad tracks to get there and Amtrack is cracking down. I have seen guys dragging boats across the tracks so i think they frown apon that!!!

Gary
10-13-2009, 10:01 PM
ok got my permit from O@G now i have to figure a short cut to get where we go. They said the entrance is all the way down the end . I will check it out.

slyman
10-14-2009, 12:31 PM
I think I know where it is. If you turn right instead of left to the quarry and follow that road to a sharp left hand turn you will see a gate that goes under the RR Track. I don't know if the gate is locked but that might be what they are talking about.

Gary
10-14-2009, 04:54 PM
Its not suposed to be locked acording to them so i will check it out.

Gary
10-18-2009, 08:24 AM
I checked it out and it is the next street over on the right. You have to park in the street and walk down. So its best to get better "Carry bags" to get everything to the lake. Now when you come in through the gate and take a right, your entering from under the bridge you drove over. In other words when we looked to the left when runing the boats where we would stand you could see the bridge ...thats the entrance area.

Gary
01-10-2010, 05:51 PM
Hey guys. Thought i would say hello. Havent seen you in a while. Looks like we are in for a long cold winter with all the lakes frozen. This sucks !!!! All boats are ready though!!!

slyman
01-10-2010, 07:57 PM
Yeh, the winter sucks. I think my left index finger is suffering from throttle trigger deprivation.

We would probably have to go down below Virginia to find a lake that isn't frozen.

My white UL-1 that was supposed to be beefed up cracked in the turn fin area BIG time and also around both sponsons. I am debating whether to repair it or get a different ride all together. Do you have any ideas?

I no longer have a supply of CF as I have fallen victim to the economy. I do have some pieces left if you need a piece.

Keep in touch.

Gary
01-11-2010, 09:47 PM
Why not try that hull i gave you? Needs alittle work but its pruven. Or you can do the Formula hull like i have. There is one lake that just foze over halfway that i am going to try in Milford. I have the Eagle tree setup that i want to test out.

slyman
01-12-2010, 06:09 AM
Let me know if your going this Saturday. We might be able to break free and check out your system.

Gary
01-16-2010, 08:11 AM
Well took a ride down there and it looks like its been to cold at night....... still ice all over. that was my last hope. Have to wait till the ice age ends LOL.

Gary
03-08-2010, 09:28 AM
Tis the season!!!!!!!!!!!! You guys ready soon?

slyman
03-08-2010, 01:12 PM
I managed to find a new hull and motor. It shouldn't take long to dust off the cobwebs and install the hardware into the new ride.

Jay has to replace his motor, ESC, and batteries. I don't know how far along he is at this point.

How far along are you? Let me know if you're ready to go I'll meet up with you.

HI, I am pretty new to boats, and I live in Middlefield near Lake Besek- looking to learn (tired of spending more time fixing and replacing parts than running). If anyone is in my area and wouldn't mind a tag a long, let me know

thanks

Would be happy to have you join the two of us at Dooleys Pond. There is a State ramp that is not far off of Rt-17 near the Middletown/Durham town line.
We sometimes meet there after work around 4:30. We also try to get together early on Saturday mornings between 7 & 8 a.m.

PM me with you contact information and we'll get together.

dgfarb
05-23-2010, 05:50 PM
thanks- PM sent. If Dooley pond is where I'm thinking of (on the East side of rt 17?), it's only 10 min from my house.

Gary
05-23-2010, 06:14 PM
Still waiting for hull. Have every part i need though so as soon as it comes i will throw it togather. Im told the end of the month but who knows.

slyman
05-23-2010, 08:39 PM
Dave, traveling from Durham on Rt-17 head towards Middletown.
There use to be a pizza parlor called King pizza, it has changed its name and I am not sure what it is but you are close at this point,

continue driving and you will see the pond on your right.
Look for the Dooley Pond sign and slow down to take your next right.

You will see an small boat ramp sign to go right. I looks like someones driveway. You are now less than a minute from putting your boat in the water.

See you soon.

Gary good to hear from you, hope your boat is on schedule.

dgfarb
05-23-2010, 08:42 PM

yes, way too hot! that one of the things I've learned the hard way. water flow was good. still a mystery. Jan from Kintec gave me a few things to check- we'll see. Ran it dry for a second or two, and seems ok.

Incorrect, Dooleys Pond is in Middletown. Here are directions if you know how to get to Durham.

You can take Rt--15 to Yalesville if you know how to pick up RT-68 into Durham from the exit. Pick up Rt-17 in Durham center. Traveling North from Durham on Rt-17 head towards Middletown. Go a couple of miles.
There is a resturant on the top of the hill on the ritht hand side of the road. I am not sure of the name but you are close at this point,

Continue driving and you will see the pond on your right.
Look for the Dooley Pond sign and slow down to take your next right.

You will see an small boat ramp sign to go right. I looks like someones driveway. You are now less than a minute from putting your boat in the water.

See you soon.

I think i will pass this Saturday Stan. Im burnt out from boats for a little while. My shop has a huge pond not 3 minutes down the road in Branford and I work with total rc nuts so we are sometimes there 4-5 times a week at lunch time. Easyer than getting up early on a day off. Its gotten to the point i cant keep up with charging the batteries fast enough. Im getting into the rc car stuff aswell so looking to buy something really fast on four wheels so will see. I did drive buy Dooleys pond on my way to an adventure park last week so i did get to see it. LOL!!

There is always room for one more, your welcome to join us.

For now its just a small group of us, five on a good day. We usually get together on Sat. mornings before the wind kicks up. We run a lot at Doolys Pond in Middletown. Its off of RT-17.

The weather today looks like it might be too windy to run but I'll keep you posted if we plan to go out next week.
