I'm starting to build a 29'' rico mono and need some advise on how to power it. I want to do this one as a budget build, sport setup, decent runtimes, 40-45 mph, 4s lipos. Not sure if a SV or BJ power system would work or an etti with a fiago.
Thanks
Kevin

40 to45 mph on 4s I would go with the Etti and a Feigao 9XL. X442 to a x445.

The SV power system would work, but IMO you would fall short of your speed goal unless you abuse the equipment.

Good luck, post some pics.

Doug
PS I just built a 31" Rico, you'll like the boat.:thumbup1:

I tried a 9xl in another 29'' mono and had heat problems but that may have just been my setup. Is a 9xl in it a hot setup? If so what would be a bit more conservative? Here are some pics. Already installed carbon fiber and will post more pics when I start to build it.

You shouldn't have had heat issues unless you were running a large prop, if the boat was heavy, or running wet. Was the motor cooled?

The setup in my Delta Force 29 is an 8xl with the etti 150 on either 4s2p 10,000man with an octura x440 or x442. This setup will yield mid 40's low 50's depending on water conditions. No heat issues at all.

The motor and esc were cooled and I used a x440 x637 and m445. The boat loved the m445 but smoked the esc. It may have just been something I did, it was when I first got into FE and didn't fully understand how to calculate everything.

The 9XL, Etti 150 and a x442 should be a bulletproof setup in that hull.
I've run that setup with a Barracuda 80 with no problems.

Good luck with her,
Doug

agree with TTH, watercooled 8XL and cheap 120A ESC, 4S and K40/K42 prop works very well, the 9XL should spin an even bigger prop!
check you COG, 20% should help if she doesn't get on plane and "burns power for nothing", I had the same on my 29" DF copy when the COG was around 30%.

It seems that an etti 150 and a 8xl or 9xl is the way to go. The question is which one? Whats the advantage or disadvantage to each one.

the 9XL will be able to spin a larger prop than the 8XL, not a lot bigger though! IMO just enought to have a better prop efficiency and gain few mph at the end!

Sounds like the 9xl is the way to go. Thanks for the help.

Agreed, I have a similar system in a DF 29...9XL..X442...2 5000 2S 1P 25C in series, Sentilon 100 HV ESC.

Speaking of xl8 and xl9 in this video http://vimeo.com/3912063 (http://vimeo.com/3912063) both on 6s lipo Zippy H 5000mah 45mm K-prop and not even full throttle yet . It was the second testing day so we`ll take it easy but no heat problems so far.

Boat nr 1 is a Hydro-Marine Xray-L wanderer(nemesis) 20xl8 6s lipo Zippy H and ETTI 125A first run 45k Prop , second run 42x55 grimracer.

Boat nr2 is a MHZ Lizard feigao 540xl9 6s lipo H zippy 5000mah ETTI 125A 45k prop.
