I need help hooking up an 8xl to my toysport Syncron it has a 5mm tip on the end of the flex shaft. so I need a 5mm to 5mm coupler? where do I get one? or what else will work?
Thanks,
Chris

I replied to you on RRR. No problem making you a 5x5. Mist be a 4mm cable with solder on it making it a 5mm...is that possible?

I bought the replacement cable from offshore electrics and yes it is a solder on cap. the cable that came with it was modifird so that it couldn't be removed without cutting off the end which i did. I also replied to you in e-mail too for the coupler Thanks a million!

Jeff can make you a nice one. My question is what coupler was in the original boat?

In order to get the flex out without cutting it, first remove the teflon. The teflon has a slit in it and pull out towards the motor side, than the flex will come out without cutting it.

5mm ? how strange !
What is the diameter of the original cable ??

Gerwin, Joseph puts a sleeve over the flex cable. It works well with the set screw type couplers.

Okay. Not my style of connecting :-)

Steven is right and you have to pull the teflon. Some across the pond did this with wire drives as well and then it was removed as one unit but allowed them to clamp down on the insert brass harder without damaging the cable when using set screw couplers.

You probably should change it over if you want. I can make the coupler to what the cable size is if you want. It would be esier to service later. Should be able to break that apart with some heat. Then find out the cable size, which may be metric but we can get it on the money.

let me know before I start the lathe tonight. I would bet it is 4mm shaft.

I always thought that Toysport uses normal cables , like 4,75mm

You are probably right...I really do not know the cable size. I would put a mic on it to be sure so we do not make one too big.

When I get home tonight I will check it out.

Just let me know in MM and decimal. If you have a decent caliper.

I have a good pair of calipers but I'm not finding them :(
I will take the shaft with me to work in the am. and get the measurements there and send them to you. What kind of heat will I need to remove the cap? will a propane torch work? Will I need to solder the end then? It would be nice to be rid of the cap for greasing and ease of maintanace.

Torch it! It is either solder or Loctite.

I made some replacement flexis for the stinger on a friend's Syncron. The cable was 0.150" into a 3/16" shaft.

Most all the shafts I've seen on his rtr boats are 5mm with a 3/16" end and 150 cable

Hmm - maybe they were 5mm -> 3/16" - I'd have to check.

Well my caliper says the cable is 0.147 inches?

Well my caliper says the cable is 0.147 inches?

0.003" is within the cable tolerance - 0.150" is only a "nominal" size.

Yes!
And the cap came off in seconds with the torch it must have been loctite.

Does yours have a flood chamber? What cells are you running with the 8xl?

I have been running 4s (2packs of 2s in series) with a x637 prop on a similar sized mono and i'm swapping that combo to the syncron. Yes it has the flood chanel in it.
