As Crocadile Dundee would say it...

That's not a servo....

THIS is a servo:

Weighs 10 oz and has 1800 oz-in of torque at 12 volts.

The 9157 is a beast in its own right:

Excellent work. How does that ESC get cooled from tubes on the edges? Or are they mounted on plates and those are sandwiched?

Jimmy twelve months ago I bought a CNC taig mill of off ebay for under $2000 with not a clue as to how to run it , joined the mach3 forum and within 3 months got a fairly clear understanding on how to write my own G-code in notepad and make some really cool things , anyone with the time and enthusiasm can with time get real proficient with what ever they design . being the dumbass that I am I surprise myself every day

What I am trying to say is that anyone can do this in fact I could teach a grade 3'r G-code in 15 minutes

lomdel

How does a drawing file like DXF or DWG translate or get converted into G-code? Can you point me in the direction of a G-code support forum(mach3)?

Punisher 67
03-14-2009, 10:38 AM
Lombard I havent quit gotten that far as to convert DFX or DWG , but I am getting fairly good at writing my own 2D projects , for 3D I will need to learn a Cad program..............near future . mach3 is the program you will use to control your CNC mill , great program and very easy to learn , you can download the demo which is still full featured up to 500 lines of code and play with it on you computor or laptop . I messed with it for months before the mill arrived just to get a good feel of what I was doing , you can also download the 150 page instruction booklet in PDF format , I got my son inlaw to print it out which is handier than reading it on the screen

Mach3 forum.............http://www.machsupport.com/forum/

Mach3 download..........http://www.machsupport.com/downloads/Mach3Version3.042.022.exe

Very nice build,,, love the motor choice! I am waiting on my 2230/1Y to arrive, should have it in a couple days.. I am going to test it in my Cat's first,, but really intend on building a Mono.. I like the DF Sniper alot, but also like the looks of the Herzog Hurricane..

I would love to see some video of this beast in action!:tiphat:

Peter as normal for you, its outstanding work. I have one question, with the cooling tubes mounted in the motor mount, is there any change a slight twist in the rails will damage the esc? I guess I'm asking is if the tubes are in there tight or floating?

Punisher 67
03-14-2009, 12:41 PM
Steven there is absolutely no twist , the unit is solid as a rock ( like a chevy ) it has frame connectors each side that joins the front mount to the rear , the ESC floats on the silicon tubing but is in there tight

Steven Vaccaro
03-14-2009, 01:07 PM
I forgot that the mount was attached, front to back. My worry was that the esc cooling tubes are attached to the sandwiched plate and that the twist may cause a separation, but you got that covered.

I'd recommend building a floor for the center line packs so they sit flat. Easier to tie them down that way. 6S packs have a lot of mass and you don't want them flying around inside the boat. The side packs are held in place nicely and cannot fly around easily.

Punisher 67
03-14-2009, 10:02 PM
That is also on the menu bill , probably will be a lexan subfloor with a wingnut clamp system and velcro

Ken thanks , yeah a big rip in the snow.....

Richard for sure there will be a video

Bill Is there a chance you can post a picture on how you keep the front of the hatch down.....:help:

Sure. Just send me one of those really nifty cooling jackets and the servo/RX mount and I'll snap all the pictures you want!!

In the mean time, I use a simple carbon fiber plate that goes into a groove cut in the lip of the hull at the front of the hatch opening. I use two small wood screws into a palte in each rear corner for added security. Then I tape it up for water proofing. So far it has held up pretty well.

I got the new decals on Friday and decal-ed up the Sniper , It looks good I think but over the weekend I watched a movie that inspired me to re-decal the boat giving it a more ominous and sinister demeanor......:spy: . The magenta with a white back drop I thought would look sharp but the new decals (hopefully done tomorrow) will look more balanced with the black windscreen have a black border with a white backdrop instead

When its re-decal-ed back up I think you guys will be agreeably impressed

Here is some video of our day at the pond , don't expect to much on the Sniper for its first run , it was only running on 6 cells and a very mild prop . that is customary for me on every first run just to get a feel for the boats characteristics . please enjoy the video as it has a variety of pictures and runs

Thank you Douggie your words are to kind

The second run of the Sniper was at the full 10C2P . the packs are just 20/30c so they took a severe beating , each bank of 10cells was spiked to over 116.5 amps or 233 amps total draw . Edmonton has the Namba 16 nitro boat club that had there seafair cup races at our pond , sorry correction there pond . These guys have never seen an electric boat do 30mph let alone 65mph+ . there was a little disbelief looking at the sniper ( Nitro Killer ) until the boat ran at the end of there contest , A few mouths dropped and a new respect for electrics developed I,m sure . Will have some video next time . Also got my scull from the movie for the front of the boat and the Eagretree hardware installed , temp probe is right on the motor windings
