Grimracer prop

I know this has been gone over and over and I have read all the threads. I have set up my strut according to the reccomendations and then some. I cannot get the boat to plane. I can throw the stock prop on and bam its on its way....I am lost guys. I have the 3 blade grimracer that is reccomended for this boat...please help.

what kinda adjustments did you make to the Grim prop once you have it installed?

I have not done anything to the prop itself only to strut depth and angle.

I have my 40x57/3 @ 1 1/16" top of table, to bottom of hull with the shaft strut sitting on the table. I also sharpened/balance the prop. I have to goose it full throttle from a dead start to get it up out of the water...you can't do it gradually.

Have fun sharpening that DULL prop. A dull prop will cavitate badly. My L40x57/3 prop was very dull from factory and difficult to sharpen perfectly.

I have to agree. I'm in the process of sharping one right now for testing. It is very DULL... rounded edge dull. I've spend quite a few hourse working an edge on it. :eek:

I have to agree the props are dull, thick, and need a lot of work. They look nice out of the box but don't let that fool you into thinking they're ready to go. I use a 1" belt sander with 120 grit to start with on the face then a file to clean up the hub and trailing edge. Once that is done I start the finishing process with 220 wet/dry on the face to get the deep scratches out. Now I use 400 and then 600 on the whole prop. Remember to keep checking the balance after the initial thinning and sharpening.

The stock prop does perform nicely, but they don't seem to last long. Mine threw a blade after 8 runs.

Glad to hear that the maiden went well. Are the Grimracer 2 blades any easy to sharpen than the 3 blade lifters?

I didn't have a GPS or a radiar gun, but the 42x55 was MUCH faster than the stock. Plus the boat handled pretty good with that prop. It was running a little loose for my liking as a heat racing setup. Right now my strut is 1" with no angle at all. I will end up putting about 1 degree of angle next.

I think so... Like you an many other have mentioned, it takes time. I royal screwed up a 40X57/3 yesterday by trying to get into a hurry.

I have an M440 that I would like to try, but it needs to be S/B'ed to.

4 hours! I spent maybe 15 min on my 40/57/3 when I got it and have around 50 miles on it now and still got 48.9 out of it this weekend in race setup. It's no where near sharp to the touch...but I'm afraid to mess with it. :unsure:

48.9mph is a pretty darn good speed for only spending 15 minutes on it. Why are you afraid to mess with it? Just file on the front of the blades until you get a good edge. As long as you keep it balanced and don't deform the face/back of the blades it will be fine.
