First off, thank you to the many of you who have put up with me the past week or so. I know it's irritating to have a newbie stumbling through seasoned forums.
I'm on a quest to have a hopped-up kyosho quality surfer. Since they can't be bought readily, I'm going to make one. I've thought about upgrading the fake one I have now (new to market available at select Sears (http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?cat=Vehicles+%26+Playsets&pid=05284092000&vertical=TOYS&subcat=More+Vehicles&BV_UseBVCookie=Yes) and Walmarts) but that will always be a toy.
I've also thought about making a hull from scratch and cannibalizing a RTR boat. That way I'll know I bought components that work well together as I take them apart and learn. As I tried to design a hull I realized it's going to be such an unconventional "boat" that it's too much for a first-time build. There would be no real transom and the rudder would be a fin.
This morning I was sketching and I came up with this. I'd love to to have some veteran advice on this shape. It's basically a deep vee with a surfboard deck up top. The deck will be much wider than the vee. Probabaly 1"-1.5" of overhang on each side. I'm going to put the 2 battery packs in a V-formation on eachside of the vee. The theory is that the waterline will be the bottom of the deck making the center of gravity below the waterline and thus self-righting.
Initial plans are to over-power it with a brushless and a big prop to get it moving but cap-out the top-end speed. Having a transom should make it a lot easier for me to learn with.
So please, your thoughts, comments and wisdom are truly appreciated.
