It had to be that Chinese Sonar, or maybe we need Sonars made in China:sarcasm1:

That particular shoal is well-known in the Honolulu harbor area. Sonar is not required in such a well-mapped anchorage. But a good GPS or someone to watch it is required.....

Normally, change of command on a navy ship is accompanied by a lot of pomp and circumstance. Brass bands, full-dress uniforms, speaches, and such. If a captian runs his ship aground all the crew knows is that there is a different captian on board. How, when, and where it happened, is not something the crew immediately knows. All they know is the old man isn't there any more.

The navy does not take kindly to such errors in leadership.....

The Navy is a club that recognizes that even the best leaders make mistakes, even costly ones. Removing a promising potential flag rank officer is not always in the Navy's best interest..

Late last year one of our navy ships hit a reef up in Tonga.
The funny part is that this particular ship is the Hydrographic and Survey vessel.
Surely that ship should have been able to see a bit of rock underwater.:confused2:

This fellow must not have been of Capt. (later Admiral) Nimitz' standing and stature in the navy. He has been "relieved of duty" as a result of this incident. He most likely will be commanding a desk for the remainder of his career.

Or not. Nimitz was temporarilly relieved of duty pending the result of his court martial - standard procedure in peacetime. He was eventually re-assigned a floating command. We'll see what happens to the officer in question. Or not, since the press never seems to follow up after reporting bad news about our armed forces....

Same thing with the war. I'm not trying to change the subject or pick a side here. The press only covered the soldiers dying and stuff being blown up. Its the same :blah: that they like to print. They never show the soldiers doing good deeds and helpful things in the Middle East. Thats sad! :thumbsdown:

Back to the subject.

I sure would hate to see such wisdom and knowledge be wasted and being put to work at a desk. There must be a reason of some sort for this mishap... I hope so.
