OK, here is one of mine... I'm trying it out in N2-Mono...

All stock, with the exception of the following pieces:

Fuller's carbon turn fins on both sides (stock brackets)
OSE Adjustable trim tabs (bolted into stock location/holes)
Neu 15-series motor
Barracuda 125 ESC
Prop
2S2P Lipo batteries

I wanted to do it in a fashion with minimal mods, so I could easily convert it back to Spec SV27 specs.

This is the first SV27 I purchased... It's all stock with the exception of some OSE adjustable trim tabs. I have it all prepped for Spec SV27 (our club's rules, which will be run at the Nats for 2007), and my 7-year old son, Tommy, races this one...

I think we've won every heat we've been in that we've finished, and we've only DNF'd two I think... Not the fastest one out there down the straights, but it's set up to be drivable and win races! Looking forward to trying it with some NEW batteries, as we've been using last years left overs so far this season!

It's not ALL about top speed... ;)

Hi:
Here are some pics of my SV27, no, I didn't do the airbrushing, wish I had that talent though:rolleyes: I run a number of diffrent props, 440/3, 642, m445, the m445 is a great out of the hole rocket but I like the 440/3 for best handling and speed. I run the OSE water jacket, and OSE adjustable trim tabs work great. The radio I'm using is the Spektrum dx3, no need for an external antenna and I've never had a signal loss, the antenna only has to go vertical for about an inch and stays inside.

Hey Guys... Just thought you'd like to see my SV27s in action at the Nationals!

With the #27 boat, I ran it in the following configurations:

N2-Offshore - Neu 1512 1.5D (3200KV), B125 ESC, 2S2P Lipos (8700mah total) for 2-heats, then switched to Neu 1515 1.5D (2800KV) for the last heat with a bigger prop... the later combo worked much better... Got 3rd place overall with this one!

P-Offshore - Neu 1515 1Y (2200KV), B125 ESC, 3S2P Lipos (10,000 mah total)... Prop was a 42x55 and it worked great...

P-Mono - Neu 1515 1Y (2200KV), B125 ESC, 3S2P Lipos (10,000 mah total).... 45x55 prop... Got 3rd place overall with this one!!

The other boat is my Spec SV27... Didn't complete ONE lap in that class! Maybe I was expecting too much after driving the other one as fast as it was!! Had fun either way!!

Lighting's not all that great, but here's mine on the stand above my desk:D
Still needs a motor that should be arriving tomorrow, and I'll be replaxing the radio gear with the Spektrum system I have at home and a Futaba S3305 servo (still looking for the servo, actually).
When I recieved it, I could see the faint outline of Caterpillar Racing decals that had been previously peeled off; I would've loved 'em, shame the seller removed them. The hull was looking pretty bare so I picked up some electical tape and went at it. Who new Duct brand electical tape was toxic?

Thought I better snap a pic of this thing before its to late.
The paint on the hood was so bad I had to cover it and dont have time to paint myself so stickers it is. I think the stickers is all thats holding her together.
So far she has collected a log, bass boat, the neighbors dock, a buoy and 4 full speed cartwheels.
Yesterday she hit 40.6 mph w/ a stock motor and IB4200nimah. Do I really need an ammo or lipos?

That was on 12 cells still warm from the charger set 1/4" from end of motor.
Tried the same set up this morning on glass and hit 38.7
The only dif was I did not grease the shaft this morn.

i had to bring my boat back from the dead since she had a run in with a buoy at 30 +... layed up alayer of glass on each side and zpoxyed the inside... covered up the antenna hole and hatch release... sprayed her red with a rattle can and threw on some stickers from a TLD kit that i had at home... came out pretty nice but i do have soem orange peeling in the finish... not bad but noticable particularly on the deck... oh well, pretty good for a first attempt... at least now she doesn t take on any water when it flips...

this summer i plan on building an OM26 with an SV powerplant... should be fun..

anyway, her is my SV, version 2.0... thanks to everyone annd this forum for so much invaluable advice... great stuff...

Did you start with a green one or a white hull?

For the one in the attached picture, it started out as the green hull... I like that green... rich but not too dark... Really looks good in the light...

This boat has since been converted back to a Spec SV27 setup, so I can race it in the Spec or Stock classes when available...

Did you start with a green one or a white hull?

And on this one... I started with a white hull... If I were to do it again, I'd go the other way and start with a green one...

Dale Koblitz
01-29-2008, 02:30 PM
I just got a green one and am trying to decide on a paint scheme. So I was just curious weather that was the green and how it looks with other colors. I origionally whanted an orange one then I was going to go with some kind of black accents but I couldn't get an orange one. I'm thinking that orange might still go allright with the green hull. Or maybe a blk and wht checkered theme like I've seen on a titan. It had a checkered theme on the bow. I think the checkered bow along with a checkered design on the sides would be cool. My dilema is I'm going to patch the origional antenna hole up so I either need to match the green on the cowl, paint the whole cowl a different color, or do a stripe over the patch. Anyway my question is does the green on the other one you painted match the SV green, and if so what color and brand is it?

Darin Jordan
01-29-2008, 02:33 PM
Anyway my question is does the green on the other one you painted match the SV green, and if so what color and brand is it?

No... it doesn't match... it's a shade or so darker... it's Krylon, but I'm don't recall the exact color number... I can find out tonight...

heres some pics of my boat. im gettin only 38.9 mph i know its a prop issue any recomendations . ammo 2300 smc 2c 5000 lipos 2 pacs. hydra120 using a ballanced and shapened GrimRacer 40x52 3-Blade. also what should the settings be as far as timming and the current limmiter should it be disabbled?

Ok thanks, what would be a good prop?

Dale Koblitz
02-04-2008, 11:58 AM
I'de guess like a 37mm prop would be a good place to start with the lipo's but thats just my guess.

kin
02-04-2008, 12:10 PM
ive not tried on this prop , but my bet would go on the octurax442. after my reserch and countless of sv videos watched , hydra 120, feigao 9xl , would make u win may races with a good tuning too im sure ... unless someone has better than this set up for now tho .

just my 2 cents to it ~

Dale Koblitz
02-04-2008, 12:35 PM
Usually with 4s lipo people are running smaller props like the x437 especially with hotter motors but maybe with the 120 you could get away with the X442. Thats what I run on my stock set-up I also detounged mine. I don't have experience with running lipo's in the sv yet so I'm just going by what I've read. I could be wrong just watch the temps of batterys, motor, and esc maybe the 442 will be fine.

chunt92
02-04-2008, 01:54 PM
ive tried the x437 3 blade and was slower than the grim prop.

chunt92
02-04-2008, 02:00 PM
also is the feigao any better than the ammo? how much better is the hackers and the neu motors are they worth the extra cash?

Ctonez
02-04-2008, 02:10 PM
...should probably move this discussion out of this thread.:sorry:

If you're only getting 38.9 with the the Ammo2300 + Grim 3-blade, then it is likely something other than "a prop issue".

You should be getting nearer 48.9 with that setup IME.

Very nice! Isn't that fuel tubing? If so I don't see why you would have a problem. I made a coil just like that for my BL mini-v and it works good but probably not as good as direct water contact like the stock jacket. Did you have problems with leaking? You can run a bead of silicone to seal the silicone jacket on. Or the ose metal water jackets work very well from what I hear. Did you do the paint yourself? I'm trying to come up with a design to airbrush on minne!

No i had a friend that paints cars and motorcycles airbrush my SV. Hes pretty good.

I used the stock ose water jacket but it leaked a little. I know theres tricks and things you can do to the silicone jacket to make it not leak like grease, snipping the nubs, etc...but i said why BS with it....and make a cool looking copper one.

I wish someone would post a setup: As in the turn fins, rudder, tabs etc...on how to tweak it to get the most speed out of it.

You guys have some awesome talent! My efforts are pretty meager in comparison but I still like trying anyway. My whole design concept is based on being able to see my boat at a distance and being able to see which end is the front after a flip. My first RC boat was a medium blue N1 mono and the first race I lost the boat in the backstretch. The next weekend it was white and I found myself going the wrong way down the course after a flip. Since then everything I race has orange flames on the front!

well here is a parts list for a stand
parts list;
5' of either 1/2" pvc(white) or 3/4" cpvc thinwall(cream colour) (my local Ace hardware will sell by the foot, last time I looked 'Farm & fleet' had 5' lengths availible)
fittings to match type of pipe
4 tees
4 elbows
out of that 5' of pipe you will need
4 connectors 1.5"
1 cross piece(bow) 4.75"
1 cross piece (stern) 5.5"
2 side rails 18"
foam pipe wrap (iirc 34" total) & a roll of vinyl electriacians tape)
taint quite as fancy as some but it works for me.

In response to all these speed demons tearing up our waterways.
Team Coast Guard has launched a new series of boats.
On our mayden voyage the boat went so fast all our decals came off.
Is there anyone out there that could make us some vinyl ???? HELP
