What prop to run?

So I’m new to boats and have no clue where to start when it comes to props. I’m building a Phil Thomas stealth.

This is the kind of info that is required for that type of question.

Of coarse anybody could say use a X-445 , but then when you burn things up you would be very upset.

BIG DITO ON THAT! ! ! Also either for racing or sport running do you have a speed in mind you will be happy with or do you want to break speed records. .

With that equipment you have listed, it looks like you want to run in the
"P" speck Sport Hydro class (Limited Class)

First off I would think of stepping up to a little higher AMP -ESC
The 120A amp unit does not give you any head room.
A 150 or 180 may be better.

Do you have a club to race with??
Do they have a rule set for this class??

Some clubs restrict Battery size and Prop size.
Also ESC like I mentioned above.

Larry gives good advice, but will you be running in a Limited class? If so the TP is a 4-pole motor and you would be running with 6-pole motors, is the TP motor legal for your club’s Limited class?

If you are not running in Limited then the motor is really too small. Most use 1515-sized (40 mm x 75 mm) motors in that hull and would be able to swing a much bigger prop than you.

It really boils down to what class and rules you will be racing. Let us know that and we can give better advice.

The only rule I know of is motor can size.

If you have limited racing experience start with an x442. This will give decent speed but still be safe if you run a lot at part throttle. You may be able to eventually race with an m445 or a comparable ABC prop (or bigger), but I recommend starting smaller. The TP motor only has 4 poles compared to most other Limited motors which have 6 poles, I don’t know how it will compare racing in that hull. Regardless, learn to drive in traffic before you try for top speed.

The ESC is, based on its rating, enough for Limited racing, but it never hurts to use more amp rating than you think you’ll need. What battery will you use, capacity, C rating and brand/type? The PT hull is a good one (we had several in my old club), I’m sure you’ll enjoy racing it.
