Guys,

I purchased a Hobbyking aquastar/swordfish 240A for my FE 1/8 scale hydroplane. I'll be running on 8s lipo and a TP-Power 4070 5Y 910KV motor. Do I need to solder extra capacitors between the esc and the lipo's?
Your advice please.

Cap Bank is always recommended, close to the ESC as possible. I’ve never seen Hobbyking Aquastar associated with a Swordfish. That’s a Heifei product, I do believe..

Agreed, AquaStar(Turnigy) and Swordfish are two different and distinct ESCs. Also, the largest esc AquaStar makes is rated at 200A. I have both the SF 240A and the AQS 200A but yes, extra added cap banks are a plus to any esc and as Craig mentioned, solder closest to the ESC as possible is best.

This is the esc and it is the rebranded version of the Hifei: https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-aquastar-240a-water-cooled-esc.html
Hobbyking esc are made by brands Hifei and Skyrc.

I believe the Aquastar 240 is just a rebadged Hifei Swordfish 240, it's pretty much identical specs, even the labels.

Though Hobbyking has a 1 year warranty and will usually send you a new one even if you smoke it, just as long as you send them a picture as proof.

I am also interested in this ESC. I believe it to be a rebadged Swordfish 240 amp version 1 with no data logging. I would be using it on 6s with a 1280kv 56 series motor (twin set up) in a cat hull. Prop size is open ended at present. Several failure videos on You-tube dating back a couple of years with one recent video being unable to programme using the data link and computer.

OS, running 56-sized motor’s on 6S is actually a bit if a waste. A number of us tried this years ago but went back to 40-sided motors. Just more efficient, but the bigger motors have more mass and handle higher watts (volts) better. They will work on 6S, but are bigger and heavier than necessary.

Would 8s be a better option then please?
