Terry, if you need any help of any kind putting this together you let me know. Labor, dropping buoy, yelling at people that need it. What ever.

Ty and I have some fast boats to run but there is a lot of free time to help out if you need it.

Thanks for the kind offer, we should be OK. I'm getting my strength back now and should be in good shape by then.

Get d'em boats ready!

I wish I was back home. . .I've lived in MI over 35yrs. . .summers are awesome up there and not like here in FL. . .hot and hotter. By the time I walk out of my front door and got in my car beads of sweat on my forehead are present already . . .I think FL is great place to vacation but to live. .NOT. But I'm outvoted by the wife and kids. However, I can run my boats all year long and that is golden. .

Yes, everyone here is freaking out right now. . stores can't keep bottles water on the shelf no more than 15min, as well as batteries, bread and other necessities. Tons of people lining up to get supplies before grocery stores even open. It's been raining since yesterday . .non stop. . .and the threat is getting serious.

Do you need to be an IMPBA memeber to run at this event?

and Terry, FWIW, none of the links in your original post are working.

Yup, you need IMPBA but it's only $30 after Sept. 1st.

Fixed the links, thanks for the heads up!

I'm not sure if Ball is going but if he does we have 5 boats capable of (maybe possibly, if the wind, and the pond gods cooperate) reaching the P sport oval record. Should be a scream having multiple guys trying to chip away at it.

Remember the wooden mono I had at the CanAm for offshore? Found more mph for an oval run. Not sure I can put it on the pins though. Might have to make Ty run it. haha

Cool! Will be lots of fun.

Mike has it at 23.650 sec / 50.739 mph so to beat it by 1/4 sec or 1/4 mph (1/4 mph is easier unless the time to beat is 34.641 sec or more) you'll need to run 23.534 sec. If the official record is broken then subsequent times only need to top the new "unofficial" record, not beat it by the 1/4 sec / 1/4 mph.

Ya, that thing was flying at our race, if you found more you should have a good shot at it. You know how good things look from our 8' high driver's stand, even old farts like us can put it on the pins!

I better figure out how to make my boat turn! :tt2:

Terry Keeley
09-13-2017, 02:33 PM
From what I've seen a fast P Sport Hydro prolly runs around 70 mph, no?

Mike Betke's seventeen year old SP40 record of 21.689 sec. was set with a boat that ran 66 mph down the straights and cornered like it was on rails. He was running around 64, we put one of our cylinder heads on the Picco, picked it up a couple and he set the record.

Should P Sport Hydro be sub 20 sec.? :confused1:

T.S.Davis
09-14-2017, 10:45 AM
You can get to 70 but not many of those that make it there can turn worth a crap. Kevin has a new Pearl that runs near there and turns pretty well. We'll see. I have one that can get close and will turn but I never intended to run it in P so it's built like a paper kite. Already falling apart trying to run that fast.

T.S.Davis
09-14-2017, 10:47 AM
Oh, and I think the record could be around 21.5 maybe with the right boat and a good eye. haha Maybe we'll make Tyler or Mike run it.

Terry Keeley
09-14-2017, 04:59 PM
After messing around with Mark Stein's SP40 I can say that Sport boats are much harder to get to corner well than outriggers.

We found very small changes in the turn fin and rudder made all the difference.

Let's see if we can lower it! :buttrock:

Heck,

Maybe I should bring that boat instead of my current hull! I had to peddle it into buoy 4 twice and I COMPLETELY blew 4,5,6 on the last lap. I bet there was 1-1.5 seconds left in that run. I can't remember why I didn't run more. I wonder if the wind kicked up...

Would be nice to get some weather this year!

Didn't you sink it Mike?

No. I broke the record in May and my hull at the October event. Good memory though, I had to double check.

Actually that boat that holds the record is the same boat that Fred bought. I am not sure if my current PT would stay on the water at those speeds.

That early morning mist might be the perfect time for some 120 mph cats.

I'm predicting just before 8 arrival time for us. Kevin K is coming up too. He's got a scary fast P sport. Keeping it on the pins will be the tricky part.

This event is my favorite event all year.

I did not get any records but Terry Davis, Mike Ball and Keith Kirchen all killed 3 FE Classes both saw and oval.

Hope to be back for the spring trials. I'll try to make sure the club race doesn't fall on the sunday of the trials.

Well TY,
I'm sure the paper work has been filled out already. So are you ever gonna tell us what records got broken?

I have received a text from Terry with a"modest" acknowledgment that he had broken my Q oval record. I recon by calling me an "old man" he considers himself young??? Just curious what other records fell.

T.S.Davis
10-02-2017, 08:03 AM
Q mono 24.95 ( I think)
P sport 22.7
Keith went 128 and some change with his big cat. That was nuts.

Ty Davis
10-02-2017, 08:04 AM
The 1/3 rs oval records that got broken were...
Mike Ball-
P Sport

Terry Davis
Q Mono

And Finally-

The S Cat 1/16th straight away record was set by Keith Kirchen.

Terry Keeley
10-02-2017, 09:56 AM
We had great conditions for a change!

National Nitro Director Mike Betke upped his own 17 year old SP40 oval record to 20.988 sec using the same boat!

MMU Commodore Terry Davis set the Q Mono Oval at 24.995 sec, impressive!

Kevin Kosciolek broke Mike Ball's P Sport Hydro Oval at 22.951 sec. but Mike took it back in the end at 22.670. Several others were gunning for Mike's time and came close.

And Keith Kirchen ran his big S Cat to a couple of the prettiest passes we've seen in years, both within one thousandth of a sec. of each other to net a new S Catamaran record of 1.754 sec. or 128.278 mph. Those were also the fastest passes ever made at Thread Lake, Congrats Keith!

All the above are still "unofficial" of course pending approval by our IMPBA Records Director Doug Smock.

Gotta clean up the boat, do a little maintenance and get back to T.O. but I'll put up some pix and vid later tonight or tomorrow.

Hope we didn't get any on ya Kevin. haha Thanks for letting us sponge so much gear from you.

Funny thing about Sunday. Due to a calcium deficiency, turns out Ty had lost the feeling in his hands by mid day. (We're working on it, no worries) So the little bugger was a 10th off of my record with the Q mono without being able to feel the wheel. WTH! No more practice for him I think.

How does one figure out a calcium deficiency equate to no feeling in the hands? Weird. I ask because of the odd issues I'm facing with similarities.
