Im considering a monohull next and love the look of the 35" KOS, but think the better value is the TFL hulled Skull model Pursuit. I believe even the entry model Pursuit is probably a better boat, all things considered, but that Fountain inspired KOS looks really nice. Ive read a few things about the flimsiness of the Venom hull, which is naturally a concern as I would plan on 6s power. Thoughts please? Thanks to all.

Pursuit all the way.

The KOS is ...well...built by Venom:blink:

Thanks Doby. With you confirming what I've read elsewhere, I gave the Pursuit the nod ARTR for 135.00, I figured I couldn't get hurt too much.

The Pursuit might slightly be a better boat, however, when reselling the Venom P1 will hold it's value and it's sought after. I had two P1 and a Pursuit and when it came to selling them, the Pursuit sold for around $200 w/ mods where the P1 sold for over $400. I still have one P1 and I love it, but it's modified quite a bit with SK180A, Leo 4074 200KV, carbon/kevlar inlay and runs fantastic. If you had a chance to get a P1 for a great price get it and hold on to it and you'll be able to run for awhile and when time to sell you'll find you'll get more for it than you paid for.. . .well, in my experience anyway and the ones I've seen sold on eBay were ridiculously very high. Still, the Pursuit is a good mono, fast and quite nimble on turns and at $135 a great deal. . .have fun.

Theres one left on ebay from a guy in Fl. I offered 135.00 and he took it. I think he has them listed for 149.00. Needs radio, still a great deal, at least I thought so. Skull model, which I like.

yup , great deal .i have a pursuit ,nice boat . first thing to do is rip that stock motor out and do a upgrade . and get a one piece flex shaft right away . greasing that 2 piece will get old fast . i done both these upgrades before mine even hit water .

and do a tub test first too ,these usually leak water up the flex shaft liner . best way to fix it is to silicone the gap between the stinger and the transom . i tried the( "o ring mod)but that didnt help so i left the rings in place and siliconed the gap shut .no more leaks after that .

good luck and post pictures when you get it .

I agree swap to a 1 piece flex shaft immediately....too much difficulty greasing the shaft, "especially" after the O ring mod!.....definitely do the "o" ring mod...I dont get a single drop of water in my pursuit

I would and am "using up" the stock motor that came with the Pursuit....
I am running on 6s only and the stock motor runs as fast as the hull wants to run. approx 45mph on 6s and she starts to walk, these hulls seem to have speed limitations you get to a point they start chine walking....watch all the videos on youtube of 6S runs yourself and make up your own mind
I have mine almost completely tamed down now but then you start to scrub off speed while trying to deal with the chine walk

point is ...use up the stock motor to setup & learn your boat, why use up a portion of the lifespan of a quality upgraded motor just for setup

I used to be always waiting for the river to lay down to run a Cat in calmer waters but this is a really a fun boat you can almost abuse it running it ...I run in mostly rough water as in the video above and have only flipped once...its become my favorite sport runner

well i put lipo trays on both sides of the hull and run 2 -3s lipos . i have no chine walking and i am running above 50 mph .57.4 is my best so far .

heres a video of that run .

special treat if you watch until the end .

you are running a leo 6S upgrade motor so its easier to add some trim tab to calm it down and still have speed
Im still running the stock motor to learn the boats setup and get the most out of it while stock.
I can get rid of the chine walk but suffer some speed loss, and maybe its the 1-2mm hook on each side of my hull at the transom, Ive seen posts where guys are asking about this and with the number of 6s videos of the pursuit chine walking maybe it is a hook issue

what prop are you running.....regardless good on you most videos show them bouncing all over like mine does

edit: I watched till the end and nice that you can make fun of yourself like that

yes i am running a 4082x2 1600 kv leopard with a ose x645 prop . and yes i slipped on a mossy rock and fell in at the end...lol.luckily the s7 edge is somewhat waterproof.
i guess my lipo weight on both sides the hull helps keep it stable . i never tried the front lipo tray .i dont own a 6s lipo .never messed with the trim tabs yet .

I know someone on Youtube that has their Pursuit running @ 65mph with no chin walk at all, using a Turnigy XK 3674 - 2200kv motor on 6s. This is on a single 6s battery placed in front of the motor .

theres more in mine yet ,a little tweaking i could hit 60 i think . and i could prop up a little yet too .motors pretty cool ,barely hits 100 degrees .

I'm running my 29 Mono on 6s, two 2s cells on the sides and one mounted in the center, ahead of the ESC. I'm not getting any chine walk either. The weight distributed on the sides creates and effect called gyro damping, calming the side-to-side walking.

FYI the HK Pursuit is down to $160 atm, I bought it a month ago at $176. I bought an OSE flex and GoolRc 3674, and I should be able break even selling the unused SSS and original 2pc flex. 150A and m445 from another boat I'm selling. Their pics aren't up to date, it's the stinger model with the long black FRP rails & battery tray.

Turns like it's on rails, handles high speed over chop like it's nothing.

after seeing a couple of the vids out there where the pursuit isnt walking around caused me to address a possible hook issue in the hull, there was a visible depression on both sides of the hull at the transom, after a light mist of black primer and block sanding showed it was worse than I thought, one side the depression is deeper and bigger in diameter so it must be causing the hull to chine walk. I poured some epoxy yesterday block sanded and primered
this morning.......I just came in from a test run and this runs like a different boat now...and I already liked the boat:thumbup1:
time to start over with the setup/tuning

I noticed the same thing on mine when trying to level the strut, I figured it could just be the design feature of the boat.

Or perhaps that stringent quality control the Chinese are famous for?

Guys, should I replace the ESC that comes with this boat with the 120a Seaking V3 that came out of my ProMarine MTR? The factory piece with this Pursuit is a 125A model, however it doesn't appear to have a name on it so I question the quality. New boat is due to be delivered tomorrow, so maybe I'll know more about the factory ESC then. Thanks.
