Hi all i have a Dunlap 30'' WOF tunnel hull with a REK 3.5 size composite lower unit set up at present with a AQ 2030 kv on 4S im interested in upgrading to a Leopard 1900 kv 3674 size motor bolted to the 3.5 REK lower unit using a .150 flex shaft on 6S. Would the lower unit and flex shaft handle this kind of power? Regards Andris Golts.

I went through 5 flex shafts on that lower unit on 4S...good luck on 6!

Short answer - no. That cable size is too small for an inboard setup with that much power, how will it last in a plastic lower?

Thanks to both of you for your replies. Doby i have been using the REK 3.5 lower unit for the last ten years on 4s power probably had close to 200 runs on it and only snapped 1 flex shaft . Every 6 runs i remove the flex shaft wipe of old grease and re-grease using Mercury 2-4-C grease and twice a year when flex shaft is removed i spray brake cleaner through the brass liner to remove old grease and crud. Hi Teamgear 1973 i bought the 2 REK lower units from Fullers fast electrics 10 years ago i destroyed the one lower unit hitting a submerged dead head a month ago . I have had a friend looking for one for me ever since. Let me know if you find a shop that still sells them . Regards Andris Golts.
