Am building a Hydro right now with this setup...Neu 1527 1.5y 850kv...Swordfish 240 pro... (2)Revo 5s-5000mah battery's in series...Now will I be able to race this setup, the battery part has me wondering or can you only run 8s in competition...Racing will be west coast. Was thinking about a second setup to run and don't know if it makes sense or just run what you brung. Second setup would be a Neu 1527 .75y 1640kv same esc but would use (1)8s 6000 mah battery. At this point I'm just trying to stock up on spare parts and maybe have a different setup to fall back on. From what I've read the 1.5y 850kv is the most popular but what draw backs if any are they're with using a .75y motor. I'm new to FE and all of my experience is in nitro.

I'm not an expert but I do have a running scale with the Neu 1527 1.5y 850kv on 10s. :) It's a fast cool running setup so far in testing.
10s is legal in Namba but the Northwest club only runs 8s so maybe check where you will be racing. You could run the 1.5y on 8s as well if that's what the other guys are doing.
But that .75y motor is more of a 4s-5s motor, the revs on 8s would be over 45,000. You want to shoot for 30-32,000 I think.
Voltage x kv gives you rpm.

Hard to find places to race 1/8. NW is your best hope. Worth finding out what they allow. Pretty sure they have have a max C rating of 45. Not sure what the plan is for when the 45c get scarce.

Thank you for the info and responses...if I race it will either be at Legg lake in El monte CA or I heard there's a club in Tempe Arizona. I'm not trying to spin 45k, think I did the math wrong. Thanks again for chiming in. But just for the understanding FE, low kv/higher voltage - high kv/lower voltage?

Thanks for the question Mike, I'm an ex-RCU nitro Scale racer from PNW and new to desert of AZ and want to build a FE Scale boat and it looks like I will be running for fun as not seeing FE Scale as relevant in SW. Most guys down here are gas guys and don't have much interest in FE.

Bummer, sounds like I'll have to do some traveling next year

You can run your electric boat like I run my 10s mono with the gas guys in open oval. The gas racers race at legg and several other locations and always run the open oval class. So that's going to be it if you want to race. They have 2 races left this year at legg but you can pick up a few more if your willing to travel. Go to namba 19 to see the list of races. I will say 1 10s 5000 mah pack is not going to cut it. You will need 10,000 mah on board if you want to be able to complete the 7 to 9 laps of a race. I have been racing electric boats in LA for over 25 years and willing to help if you need it.
