Not sure if my 300 S.F. esc can handle this motor. The max. amp of this motor is 300. Do you think my 300 SF esc can handle this motor with maybe a smaller size prop? Any suggestions for me?

Thanks,
Don Bonomi

Need to understand what hull this setup is going in, how many cells you plan to run, what prop etc.

This is a Fine Design 36 mono V-hull. I"m running 6s, SF 300esc with a Leopard 4092 1730kv motor and a Octura 448-50 props. I don't like the motor. Way too slow. I wanted to run a Tp power 4070 2080kv. motor with a smaller prop size: maybe Octura 440-442. Strictly for speed. The max amp on these motors are 300. Do you think my 300SF esc can handle it?

Best,
Don

Have you tried smaller props on that motor? You may find it opens up with a smaller prop.

The max amp rating means that the maker thinks the motor can run safely for a short time drawing 300 amps. Few motors are very efficient at 300 amps and they will get hot fast. But amp ratings are often inflated. A safer value would be 200-225 continuous amps. Your 300 amp controller has the capacity to work. Having the quality to do so remains to be seen.

The props you are using with the Leopard motor are too small for top speeds with that large hull. Loaded rpm will be in the 30-32,000 rpm range, some 48 mm props will be lucky to get that big draggy mono into the 60s. A 55 mm or higher pitch 50mm prop is more appropriate for that Kv and hull size - but watch the heat.

OTOH the TP is a better quality motor, more efficient and the higher Kv will give better speeds with the smaller props. Loaded rpm will be in the 37-38,000 rpm range and set up and propped right should give 70s...for short runs.

A few photos of your setup would help, from the side showing strut depth.
