I love the different colors on the turbine and exhaust housings of the turbos. And the gold leaf is pretty sweet too. Nice work.

Not the exact same boat but my free time right now is to help to restore/rebuild the 1979 Squire Shop. it is quite a project.

due to the amount if damage there wasn't much of the original boat that can be used. A lot of hardware Cowling the orig tail and uprights have been found ect. Will take probably two years to get her done.

not having very good luck running this boat. first time in the water jumped up right on plain ran great 1.5 laps and stopped got it back to shore did not change anything now it acts like its underpowered can't get on plane. the correct strut depth is even with bottom of sponsons is rhat a correct depth?

I have a etti 220 speed control 10s lipos is it possible it is not running on the whole 10s?

What size prop?
Also is your CG setup to balance on front edge of turn fin?

Was anything hot or smelled funny when you brought it in 1st time it quit. I like those big Ettis have 3 of them. 0nly weak link on them is the short length of area battery leads are soldered on to the boards. They come on soldered if your taxing the controller sometimes.

Are you running 10s2P?

2 5s packs, and a 450/3 prop

Ken, everything was barely warm my cog is approximately 2" behind sponsons

That's a good prop, you have the 5S packs in series correct? Check your packs for dead cells and the battery leads at esc board solder joints.

I believe the strut was not correct. I did unhook the speed control and rehook it maybe it could have had a loose connection

do you mean that arc burned connector caused the power loss ?

Snapping your connectors and caps is very detrimental to the integrity of both components. It’s actually more harmful to the capacitors. Depending on the size of cap banks used, these surge current can easily go over 1000A! This causes separation of the dielectric from the aluminum, or air pockets in the cap. It’s so unavoidable by using a pre-charge alligator lead with a 10 Ohm resistor in the middle. Many argue this point, but there’s no arguing the cap and connector degradation.

Craig,

thank you for the information.

here's the esc I have in my 8S 1/8 scale.

arcs and snaps every time I connect the red battery cable with the jumper.

the connector is arc burned more than the one in photo above.

I have not water tested my boat yet so I don't know if it will run under load.

please post photo of alligator clip - resistor set up you mentioned

thank you

Here’s the cable assembly. The alligators are available on the ose site. The resistor is a 10 Ohm, 1/2w, 5% carbon comp. those specs aren’t critical, should be able to pick up at a local electronics parts house. They are also available from Mouser Electronics, or Mouser.com under part number 791-RC1/2-100JB, very cheap. I clip one side on the loose wire and the other on the connect point. I wait 5 seconds, take off the jumper and plug in. I keep my BEC and ESC OFF until I get the main leads connected, then power up the transmitter, then the boat. If you don’t have switches, then you got to move pretty quick because the caps will get discharged with the electronics ON.
