I was given this old hydro by a family friend. No information on it and my google searching has turned up nothing. It has no markings that I can find so I was hoping someone on here has seen something like it in the past. I began to gut it in the process of restoring it, and converting it to electric as a winter project. The hull is HEAVY so I know it won't be very fast, just something fun to keep me sane through the snowy season.

If anybody has any info on the hull I'd greatly appreciate it. Also any recommendations for power setup? I have a few ideas but I'm curious to see what you'd do. Thanks!

Possibly an old sport 40?
how much does it weigh?

Hull is 36" long and 18.5" at its widest. Weight is 4.6 pounds with the old running gear removed.

I would think a 4S lipo and proboat 1500kv motor and about a X447 would yield you about 45mpk

If the hull is grass, it looks a lot like a Hass hull built in So. Cal, in the 70's. That hull was a sport 40.

Many Sport 40s from the 1970s were not the most efficient running boats. Power was limited and some had trouble staying on step. Sponson designs were primitive, often with insufficient aoa and area for the weight of the boats. This particular hull would not be legal to race as a Sport 40 today.

I am not sure how the 4S/ProBoat motor would work on this heavy hull. Might be fine, but might not provide enough speed at a reasonable amp draw. IMO a 6S battery and a larger ~1000 Kv motor would be a safer option for this unknown hull.

Thanks everyone! I know this hull is extremely outdated and certainty will not be the quickest or most efficient thing out there. I'm restoring this boat simply as something to keep me busy during he winter. That said, all the running gear that I purchase will more than likely be transferred in to something more modern at a later date. As far as power goes I have a 2000w 6s motor already that'll pair to a 120 amp marine ESC. Should keep it pretty sporty, and will be useful in something else further down the line.
