Guys,
I am converting my 1/8 scale hydroplane into Fast Electric but I see everywhere a 40 size used in 1/8 hydroplanes. My hull is somewhat heavier so I was thinking of using a 50 size 6 pole 1200kv motor on 8s in it: http://www.ebay.com/itm/SSS-Motor-5694-6-pole-1200kv-Brushless-Motor-with-Water-Jacket-for-RC-Boat/272260436013?_trksid=p2047675.c100623.m-1&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%2 6asc%3D38530%26meid%3D25b9d081010f49a59144fa4a59fa 55cd%26pid%3D100623%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D2821 08782188
Or should I use a TP-motor 4070 4 pole 5Y 1250kv in it on 8s?

A Kv of 1250 is way too high for 8S in a heavy 1/8th scale boat. Rpm will be too high and the prop required will be too small for decent efficiency on a big boat. A better choice would be between 850 and 950, this will draw fewer amps and allow a bigger prop which will pull the boat much better.

Without knowing anything about the boat it is tough to recommend a motor size. Most 1/8th scale racers use motors around 40x92 to 40x100 size, but a really heavy boat might use a 56mm size. Regardless, I would recommend the TP motors over the SSS products.

OK zo the TP Power 4070 910kv on 8s would be a good choice. What prop should I run? X450?

I run a lehner 2280/9 in my 1/8th scale on 10s 1p. Swing an x452/3

I run NEU 1527 1.5y motors on 10S1P in my Scales using 50-52mm props. Meets both NAMBA & IMPBA (current) rules for 1/8th Scale power.
