A long overdue facelift to the 3-time record setting Drifter - This time there will be no 70+ mph passes to be left on the table with brand new :spy: SSHSP :spy: - [Super Slippery Hi-Speed Paint], some subtle mods, a top secret prop from Chris & some fresh packs thanks to Mr. Ken Haines:wink:

Killer, Tony! I will be bringing you a little present this trip. :) Maybe a replacement?? :)

I'll be heading to Brian's next Wednesday, and we're carpooling down on Thursday!

I think just two boats this trip, both TINY...

M2-Hydro... let's see if we can break the 90mph barrier on a single cell
147412147413

N1-Hydro... One more record I think I should have. This is Pat McDonald's old 4C-NiMH Hydro that was given to my by Dan Proulx under the conditions that 1) I race it, and 2) I get video of it running! Happy to oblige!!

Looking forward to it!!

Shouldn't the flotation go inside the boat ?

I think the MDF shelf might add too much weight once it gets wet and throw off your COG. I prefer to use composite myself.

hahaha

Watch out for those hanging chads. They could shave some speed.

Also, if it looks like someone else is going to be faster than you just have the CD switch your name in at the last second while nobody is looking.

This is just an example of why not to run SAW near shore, that was 136mph, one propeller lifted approximately 30 feet prior to half track and the boat cleared the exit light. That would be 24 pounds flying approx 200'

Just got a report of a new SAW record set today. Brian Buaas raised the P Hydro record to 136 mph, with a fast pass of 141. Congratulations to Brian!

Just beginning to recuperate and catch up. Car's not unloaded yet:sad:. Darin & Brian currently on the road back to the PNW. A few random pix & vids - need to sort out lots more as I catch up with my other activities. Enjoy:thumbup1:

( FWIW no pictures or vids are remotely able capture the spirit and the WARMTH that permeates this event. All the efforts and sacrifices to ready the lake, get boats and gear together, travel the distance, and spend three days in quick succession from sunup to sundown become secondary to the feeling that comes from old friends spending time together for these few rare and precious moments. Witnessing the upwardly evolving envelope of equipment and speed has been an enormous learning experience for me - I'm truly privileged to have been a part of this and have for the 20 or so SAW's I've attended in past years.)

Thanks for the videos, Tony.

Slight correction.

1-Cell is M2-Hydro, that's the first video.
The other one in N1-Hydro, which us actually 2-Cell.

Darin, what type of ABC was it that you were using on that 1 cell Rigger? a new style/model of ABC prop ?

If I were to designate my DF28 Pathfinder to spec 4s SAW running, what setup would you guys suggest for me to try? Mainly motor and prop. I have many spec motors.

Would I best use a Castle ESC? I have one.

Are there rules for spec I don't know about?

Ray,

In general (until a change is made, which is likely to come), the current (I just checked) NAMBA approved motors for P-Ltd Cat are

Brand Model Description
AquaCraft AQUG7000 L36/56 7.2-18V – 6 pole brushless
AQUG7001 36-56-2030 – 6 pole brushless
AQUG7002 36-56-1800 – 6 pole brushless
Himax HB3630 1500 brushless – 6 pole brushless
ProBoat PRB3310 A3630-1500 – 6 pole brushless
PRB4017 A3630-1800 – 6 pole brushless
DYNM3835 A3630-1500kv – 6 pole brushless,
water cooled, marine motor
DYNM3830 A3630-1800kv – 6 pole brushless,
water cooled, marine motor
iii) In addition, the CD has the discretion to allow the following:
(a) An aftermarket motor that is a re-labeled and exact copy of any
approved motor.
(b) Any generational change of an approved motor, or a motor that
is used in a Ready To Run (RTR) offering from a manufacturer
that produces over 100 units of said offering, as long as there is
no more than a 5% increase in any of the following
manufacturers specifications as compared to any single
approved motor: Kv, maximum constant amperage rating,
mass, and MSRP.

The class allows up to 10Kmah with no cell (up to 4 max) over 4.23V

Length limit is 34.0000 inches.

The current record is 67.77mph with my Drifter / Aq2030 / Turnigy 120 / Dinogy 3700's 4S2P / Snowman El Kabongo prop :spy: Several un backed-up runs over 70.xx mph btw:closedeyes:

If you want to do "SAW runs" with the DF cat, the 2030 with the right prop could be the ticket although Ray P. and company in Az are getting their P-Ltd Cat heat racers going max fast with 1500KV and bigger props. The CC ESC is always a good choice

Fluid

Ray, the DF hulls have quite a bit of lift forward and will need an air dam at the front of the tunnel. There is an advantage with this short hull in using a smaller diameter prop to reduce prop walk. This will require a high Kv, and of the currently legal motors IMO the PB/DYN1800 is probably the best choice. It’s actual Kv is not much different than that of the AQ2030 motor. The AQ2030 motor quality has been spotty.

High timing (15*-20*) is probably best. If you use high quality cells you won’t need more than 3300-4000 (tel:3300-4000) mAh. The ABC 17* props are currently the best. Consider a knife-blade prop, supercooling the motor/ESC and heating the cells prior to the run. Good luck!
