I thought I posted a build thread on this boat. Guess I didn't because one wasn't to be found. Anyway, I'll just post some info and pics about it and not a whole build thread. And a video from today.

I ran this thing a couple times. First time out on 2s it wouldn't get on plane. lol. Was disappointed to say the least. Was supposed to do around 50. Then I tried 3s. I think it went like 34mph. Lmao. Turd. Then I put in 4s. A whopping 47mph then snapped the flex. Wha?
Well the strut I had just wasn't doing it. So I had to machine a Speedmaster one I had down a lot smaller. Works perfect now and no binding. The other strut was getting super hot and I didn't know it till I bench tested it the other night. I was looking to get around 75ish on 4s with this little thing and I nailed it today on my first run. This is going to a fast and fun little dude once I get it lined out. Had a small prop on it too.

Tp3650 size motor
Sf220 esc
Spektrum servo
Home made .187 flex
Mbp collet
Mono Jeff custom battery trays
Mbp billet steering rod ends from ose
Speedmaster rudder and strut machined to fit
Heavily reinforced fiberglass hatch

Here it is as a bare hull. Beautiful little thing.

This is 8 extra layers of glass on this hatch. It should be able to take a hard hit. I did flip it yesterday at about 70 and nothing.

Thank you sir. Maybe one day I'll ride out your way and run a few of my boats with you. There's a few spots on the bayou a couple of my buddies run.

Are you running extra caps on this boat?

Are you running 3s or 4s on that 3080kv motor?

It's on 4s right now but propped down from what I was originally planning. I see myself having to back it down to 3s soon.

I'm using a castle cap bank that I removed the caps from and replaced them with 4 1000uf 35v caps. On my faster setups I always run caps. I've added caps before (went from 8 to 10 caps) and gained speed.

Beaux

I ordered the castle cap bank from OSE good up to 12s, so 4s should be all right with a 2200kv and m442 prop for a little sport n speed right?

Beaux

I ran it on 3s yesterday with a 3665mm 3100kv 40 mm prop it did ok. I feel the boat's to big for a 36mm it'll be better when my 40mm gets here.
How important is it to place the caps as close as you can to the esc?

I need to make a correction. I measured this hull for Darin last night and it's actually 27" long and 8" wide.

I made a few changes. I checked my cg and it was a bit further back than it should be. I'll just move the batts up a little and it puts it where I need it. Kinda going off of its 98mph bigger brother.

I also added an air dam. Some people say a drinking straw is fine. Well I don't want a drinking straw taped to my boat so I taped a piece of carbon tube. Matches the hull nicely.

I decided to go make a test run today after making a few slight changes. I was praying for about 80mph. I had no idea that it was going to pick up so much with the few things I did. I was able to get on it all the way too as the air dam kept it glued to the water. It was unbelievably stable. When it ate up the whole lake in a matter of seconds I was in disbelief. I knew it went fast but didn't expect this. It was one of those passes that you know it's so fast you say holy sheet!

I wanted to add that it took me only 4 runs to get it to this speed. The first two I don't count because the first run was a function test in very rough water, second run was rough water again but I decided to make a go anyway and snapped the flex. Next run was 74.8 and 4th pass was 92.1 Pretty impressive for not having any tuning time on it.

Fast, are you running a .187 flex?

kfxguy

Fast, are you running a .187 flex?

Yes. I thought about going with a smaller one but I had a mbp .187 collet on hand and I knew this 36mm was a beast and may snap a small flex. I was right too as I snapped the first one with the prop being a lot deeper. Also didn't help that I've been making my own flexes and cheaped out on solder. Silver bearing solder is the only way to go. That's what I used on this flex.

Maybe try using some Gundert 5mm flex -- I believe it is also hardened... but you'd have to sand it down to around ~4.8mm for them to fit the MBP .187 collet.

I'm about to in my twin mystic... almost finished with it ... i'll let you know how it holds up. But I know Manuel used or uses it in his builds (he made mention of it in an older HPR115 thread).

Well I think that 3/16 is more than adequate for this. It was mainly a failure on my part. Testing my hand at making flexes. I think I've got it down pat now. I'd rather lose the prop on my boat than a customers boat anyway.

A .187 looks pretty tough, you must be layin down some torque .

Well I think it's mostly my fault. The solder I used wasn't near as strong as silver solder. I'll see if this flex lasts which I have a feeling it will. But this little motor does have some serious tq. It's equal to a 4050 sized tp. I may be going down on kv soon. This boat is just too fast at this point to enjoy.

I have another Rivercat hull I'm collecting parts for to build a twin. Then I have a voracity, zelos, shockwave 26, mini mono, blackjack 9, carbon 37" Daytona, a Etti demon rigger and a kbb34 and another mini hull on the way. Whew. I need to sell some stuff.
