I should probably start by saying hi and that I am new here. I tried to build a big 46" wildthing a few years back. Its still sitting half finished. Well, I recently got an older electric boat essentially for free and after tuning it up a bit, its pretty cool. It got me hooked again so for kicks I decided to try and build another boat from scratch. This build is kind of a proof of concept for me. I'm not going for crazy performance. I plan to build it with cheaper parts and just get it in the water as I'm new at building.

I scaled down the cad file I had from my larger build and adjusted it to use 1/8" ply for the inner structure and 1/32 ply for the skin. I'm fortunate to have access to a laser cutter and CNC. I cut all the parts on the laser and its going together pretty fast. I remember from building the bigger boat that I wanted to try a few different things and I am seeing that now on the smaller boat. There will likely be some parts "scabbed" together till I am happy with the build. I'll then adjust the cad and build another and maybe spend a bit more time on it with nicer electronics. I plan to just run some cheaper brushless setup from hobbyking or something. Banggood.com has some low cost aluminum rudders as well as some spare parts from a similar sized boat (strut, tube, shaft and prop). I plan to use those parts for the hardware.

Anyway, here are some pictures of the progress so far. The sides are just taped in place for now. Hope to get those glued up today or in the days to come.

Thanks

here are a few more updated pictures. Since this is my first build, I went with some cheaper parts just to get the feel for it so I have hardware and electronics on the way.

Going to try and get the inside of the hull glassed soon.

test fitting the deck. Cut it out of cardboard first to make sure it fits

Nice! You can get all the hardware that you need from the ose store btw. I hate dealing with overseas ordering. Takes too long. You might lose interest again! Lol

well I did actually do the over seas order for this one. Like I said, I wanted to make sure I liked this hobby and got use out of it. I'm on the water every weekend so I don't know why I haven't had a boat till now but still taking it easy this time. So yeah, it'll be a few weeks. The parts did ship so thats good. I plan to build a nicer boat with OSE parts once I figure out what I'm doing. I have a 2450 3000kv motor coming and a 50A esc that I plan to add water cooling to. We will see how it all goes.

In the mean time I started a 21.5" crackerbox that I drew the plans for myself off from the current APBA offset chart. Also want to look in to a tunnel hull. These hulls go together a lot quicker than I thought they would.
