I've got an old 40" v hull that was gas powered and I want to rebuild it electric. I have built rc trucks and planes but new to boats and could use any help I can get!

What batteries do you now have? Cells, and Mah. What is your budget? What transmitter(s)? Everything needed to convert that 40" boat could easily cost around $750, probably much more
if you bought all new stuff. Is the boat pretty strong?

Yeah the boat is in good shape and strong. I'm about to reinforce the in side of the hull with fiberglass. I'm trying to get things together for this build. So I need info on motor size and kv and stuff to do this.

How fast do you want it to go I think is the main question lol

This on 5s 2P Will be in the 50 Mph range if done right . I am sure others will chime in . Needs a big ESC and some 5000MAH batteries at a 50c rate should be a good start .
Youll need a water can for the motor and a quality motor mount . I have this in a Vanquish from Hobby king and it roosts pretty good . Just one opinion.

If you are doing a conversion you'll need to seal up the hull and make it water tight if you can. I usually cut out thin marine ply, cover any holes and epoxy them and coat with z-poxy. Also if the boat has rails its not to hard to find or fab a motor mount. Also probably looking at .250 flex and hardware with a 160mm rudder with large trim tabs... you gotta start somewhere.

800kv motor on 5s ????? Are you sure your brain is in gear:confused2:
Yo OP, make Dasboata an offer on that Nue 1527 1.5 D/S 1500kv motor in the for sale forum, it would be the perfect motor for your hull.
You could run it on 3s serial, 4s serial, 6s parallel, and more. :w00t:
You could save some money and buy a TP Power motor 4070 D 2050kv with a free jacket right here at OSE.

Did you really read what I posted??? 5s 2p. Is 10 cells is it not??

Yes sir I did. two 5s (18v) 5000mah batteries in a 2p config. = 18v @ 10,000mah. Great if you have a 2000+ kv motor, (some rpm, and run time).
A 800kv motor as you recommended would require a 5s *SERIAL* config. = 36v @ 5000mah. Decent RPM, but with a heavy amp hungry mono such as the OP's,- 5000mah would last for maybe 2 and a half minutes tops.
In a nutshell; parallel (2p) is twice the mah, but the same voltage. Serial (#+S) is twice the voltage but the same mah.

My bad. I am running them pos to negative then to the esc and have no runtime issues. Your results may vary. I was under the impression that was 5s 2p but I have been wrong before.if I'm wrong I have no problem admitting I don't know everything.

Thanks RRCKong for the starting point, I am in the process of sealing up the hull at this moment. Had to remove the motor mount rails because they were cracked, going to fab and install new ones. But thanks again for a great starting point!

Boat is progressing well reinforced the inside of the hull and got the outside work done and paint. Looks good to me! I am wondering if anyone has any thought's about me using a leopard 4082-1600kv with a 200amp ESC in it on 6s? The boat is just for sporting around and having some fun!

Also what are thought's either a stinger or strut? The transom is not completely flat, it has a kind of concave shape at the very bottom so I'm not sure which one will work best? Any help would be great!

I am a glutton for punishment so I did a strut with flooded tube on my recent build :bounce: This allows for maximum adjust ability. It looks like it may be troublesome putting a stinger with the transom like that anyway.142494142495

I don't think that motor is a good choice for a hull that size. Though it may work it won't be ideal. Look for lower kv and larger can size. I have a 4092 in a 32" mono and it is NOT too big.

Thanks Jamey for the great info, that's why I think this site is great!
