Building a MHZ Racemaster mono over the winter, going with the name SINISTER. For power she will be getting a Lehner 2280 with KBB spec 300A lite ESC, rudder and drive are MTC, and speedmaster billet trim tabs. First step is the inlay, I've yet to do one myself so I will be heading to Shawns (Apophis) for a lesson  I will be taking all hardware in to be anodized black to get the look I'm after.

Those are some stout looking parts! Is there all ready one layer on inlay in the hull?

No inlay yet I ordered the Kevlar version from MHZ

Nice, with that motor should be good for like 35-40 mph right?

Curious what will cell count be? Hardware looks great too, that MBP jacket is really cool.

Lol yeah she should hit 35-40 pretty easily. Will be running 8s, I've never used the MBP jackets before but I like the way they look.

It's a cool hull, a little narrow but I like it as well. I'll be getting started on it after Christmas

Made the trip to Shawns (Apophis) house today to get a lesson on inlays. I learned a lot, and will attempt to do my own inlays on future builds. Shawn did a great job on it, and we also got the transom doubler made as well.

Got a little work done today, I trimmed the excess carbon from the hatch, installed the transom doubler, and filled the bow with 2 party marine foam. Will start drilling some holes this week.

Had a little time before work so I got the motor mount mocked in place, drilled the stuffing tube hole, and got the tube bent. Fits like a glove

Also does anyone have any ideas on how to fill the void between the rear motor support and the bottom of the boat? I have like a 1.5" gap

Got the stuffing tube installed yesterday, today I'm getting the motor mount epoxied in and the stuffing tube brace is also getting installed.

How long do you let your epoxy dry before removing the tape around the motormount ?

Thanks,
Roy

Usually over an hour, I just keep checking on it to see if it is tacky enough to hold its form

According to the lehner motor calculator, the maximum efficiency on 6s is around 161A and on 8s around 201A.
Are you going to run 1p or 2p?

gixx1k2
01-16-2016, 11:00 AM
8s1p by 2-4s in series.

I have Apophis to thank for that. I've never done one, so I took it to Shawn for a lesson from a pro  I just picked up a DF sniper I'll be attempting my first inlay on that when I get around to building it.

Got a little more work done today. i ordered an esc mount from MBP but needed a CF plate to be able to mount it, I don't have any laying around that's big enough so I decided to use a old CF battery tray. Looks like it will work well :thumbup1: I also got the rudder mounted and water inlet installed.

I just hope it performs, it's a narrow hull with lots of power. Hoping to be able to keep her straight

Had some unexpected time today to mess around with the mono. I got the steering linkage installed, I'm using a carbon fiber rod so I need to get the servo arm aligned perfectly. Also got the water outlet and antenna mount installed.. I got the hatch bolts installed tonight as well
Next weekend I'll be working on getting the servo mounted just gotta figure out how lol

gixx1k2

Using a carbon fiber steering rod obviously cannot be bent, and I didn't want to put a shelf in and cover up easy access to the transom hardware. I found a servo arm from an airplane website that is perfect length so I can still use the mount I have, and get perfect alignment with the linkage  I'll be getting the servo mounted permanently tonight.

Excellent servo choice. My Radiopost servo is fantastic. Great looking build!

Thanks for the compliment, these radiopost servos are awesome. I like how quiet they are, can't even tell they're on

Can't wait for the ice to melt :glare: the maiden should be interesting, I'm worried there will be to much torque roll with how narrow this hull is. May have to shim the drive a little

Hi, I read at the start of the post that you would be getting your hardware done in black. I to go with that colour and it comes up great. The only thing I wanted to let you now was that with the trim tabs you have from speed master I could not get the stainless hinge pin out?.
I tried heating it, drilling it and hammering it. Not sure how they assemble them but it seems they must have a thread machined on one end and then the screw head must wind off during manufacturing.
Has anyone else tried to pull them appart successfully?.

Thanks Shane.

I think it would look awesome black but Ive decided to leave it alone. Next time I will order the hardware which is already anodized

Finally got her in the water. I got a bit of tuning to do, but was happy with the maiden overall (besides the flex snapped at the end) Haven't quite figured out why it happened, driveline spun freely before the run. I'll have her back together and hope for some nice weather for the weekend.

Did you glue or solder the flexshaft?

Did you glue or solder the flexshaft?

I use LocTite 648. It snapped about 2 inches from the motor collet inside the stuffing tube
