Prop nut replacement?

Not sure have not lost mine yet. Same as my bj29, thinking if you don't want to order from hh take flex to a nut and bolt specialist and match it up hardware won't have one in stainless steel. All after market with .187 shafts are 10/32.nuts

I've got mine off and ready to go to the hardware store to figure it out. I'll let you know if no one has answered by this weekend.

It's either 5mm or American 10-32.

P.S. if you use a nylon lock nut, you will chance losing whatever prop goes on there. I used one once and lost a Dasbota 455.... Expensive!

You mean you lost a prop while using a nylock nut (steel nut with a plastic locking insert)? My Voracity came with a regular split ring lock washer and a nyloc nut.

Use aircraft type lock nuts like the ones sold for American standard 10-32 thread. They have been crushed a bit before hardening to make them slightly oval causing you to use much more force to install and remove. Never lost a prop with the standard lock nuts. They are used in aircraft where loose nuts kill people.

I don't know what they give you stock on the boat soi, it may be fine. I was using standard nylon lock nuts and never again.

All my Chinese flex cables that I bought a while back had 5mm threads on them. I cut them off and cut new threads, 10-32 since I hate metric flex shafts.

In a vice with some medium paper, lots of pressure. It's a bear to do. I chamfer the end first and use cutting fluid. The OD is actually a bit too large for the die but, I'm merciless.

I took the stock nyloc nut and lock washer to Lowes and the nut fit on both the 10-32 and a metric size thread gauges. I'm not sure if that's because their thread gauges are worn or the threads are just very close. I feel like I failed in my mission. Sorry. On top of that, the only 10-32 nyloc nuts they had are much larger than the stock nut so they will stick out into the water flow much more. Anyway, I'm not happy with those so I'm still searching for different nuts. The nut that is on the prop is the larger size. You can see how much bigger it is than the prop hub.

To find the right size nut easier, try a normal but first. Whichever goes on easier is the right size.
