Fast Electric Model Boats Of Tidewater (http://www.virginia.org/site/main.asp?Referrer=Tidewater&Rgn=15000)

They are a completely unorganized group. They have no website, no meetings, no dues, no classes, no racing, no trophies, and most importantly... no rules!
Just bring your boats and have a great time running with whoever is left.

Just curious what the "no rules" clubs are doing about insurance?
Home owners, AMA? Private pond, public waterway?

Good luck FEMBOTS!!

I have blue cross blue shield. I dunno about the others.

Since we don't run "real" races, and we have no "real" events. It's really just a bunch of friends with RC boats out for a run.
I can add your name to the list if you like?

As always.

Typically, there is never any more than 1 boat in the water at a time, unless the rescue boat services are required.

Insurance is only a requirement to protect stupid people.

Just remember, You guys live in the lawsuit capital of the world....no-one is acountable for their own actons,,,,everyone else is.

We are better (Canadians) but are trying our best to catch up with you (based on some really stupid court decisions lately)

Stupid people need to be pushed to the outside of the herd to be picked off by the predators, unfortunately society seems to want to coddle them.:cursing:

OK, Femmie has been spotted and something tells me, that Dirty has a hand in it (after seeing the duck decoy run w/brushless setup).

You already are!
Did diego and dirty show you the christening of the kb 45 and esc (with 4S lipo's) that you gave me for the cat? It was ugly and dirty is the one laughing on the infamous video (which was maybe 4-5 seconds).

About the baseball - does it float?

Points to note from the last run:

GPS's work better when reset before running the boat.

It is true, the poor little rigger was resurrected and ran well. And yes, it is not a pretty site at the moment. Hopefully, in the very near future, she'll get a new nose and a paint job.

Thanks to everyone who contributed parts and expertise to make it happen!

I do! What time??? am I too late?

egneg
10-26-2008, 04:11 PM
Yep to late ... and probably a good thing too. First I ran the cat and it started out ok and then slowed down real quick. I brought it in and one of the 2S packs was 160+ degrees and puffed. Then I ran the wave shark and it sunk! I went home and got a fishing pole with a big treble hook and managed to hall it back to shore minus the GPS.

I should have stayed home today!!!

Sorry about your boat egneg. You know I'm the king of epoxy ;) J/K

Let us know what we can do and I have a guy that can probably get the GPS. Do you know the location it went down? Did you triangulate? Consider going to the loch, look at the loch where it when down from 3 different angles, that will help find it later.

I'm thinking a major run, the better part of the day (more than 15 minutes Dirty) Bring our chargers(no pun intended), chairs, and run our boats trying different configurations and props (egneg), and run some more. Rather than run 1 time, take it home, tweak a bit, the run again the next weekend. We can grill on Meniscus' grill, since he always has it with him. LMK

How 'bout a Sunday afternoon run? Boats hit the water @ 12:30, burgers hit the grill @ 1:00. Then we run some more!

All I want to know is, are we going to have to contend with wind? What's the forecast?

And, when are we going to start bringing the wind-brake? I'm thinking some 5 mil disposable drop cloths, and some stakes are all we need to address the wind direction. I figure we could calm things down in about 6 or 7 minutes setup.

(in denial that conditions could be controlled)

Are we going to try to cast a net out for egneg's gps?

Oh, and I got my Blackjack back! I'll bring it n any case. What are we having? Burgers? Brats? Thighs?

Egneg, can we get away with drinks?...it'll be after 1200 noon LOL, J/K.

I'll bring the box-o-props for test and tune. All of my large format boats are going up for sale as I sold my suv for a sub compact. Up for sale is going to be a hpr115, aeromarine twin 2280 conquest, a nomad xl, and a aeromarine avenger 1/8 hydro. Financing avaliable for fembots only. I'll put this stuff on the swap shop as soon as I get motivated. Are we grilling?

I have some major work to do...

I have to find some deans plugs (or buy them in the morning from Debbie's) for the new replacement NIMH packs (originals went to Horizon and never came back) to be put in the BJ26 that finally came back. Plus, I need to seal the radio box at the antenna (leaked on last during test). Charge, discharge, charge, discharge, charge and hope they have some runtime.

Mount outrunner in the resurrected Renegade and get lined up. Charge battery

Remove servo in the Oberto and replace with one with more torque.

Charge NIMH Venom 5000's for the sleeper that Jeff has.

I'm sure I've got other stuff I haven't thought of yet...

egneg

Are you sure you want Diego to make another adapter? You haven't forgotten the last one already!

Meniscus
11-09-2008, 06:42 PM

Meniscus
11-22-2008, 09:19 AM
For the record, its not my idea, but rather Jeff's.

Meniscus
11-22-2008, 09:35 AM
So here's the deal. It came to Jeff's attention that Tesla is the grandfather of RC and notably, the first RC device was a boat.

Abbreviated info on the links below.
http://naval-history.suite101.com/article.cfm/the_robot_boat_of_nikola_tesla
http://www.teslasociety.com/robotics.htm

So Jeff thought that maybe we could incorporate the Tesla name into the club name. I threw out maybe Tesla's Automatons (reference article) or Tidewater Tesla Automatons.

There are other combinations I've tossed around in my head such as Tesla's RC Boat Club.

In any case, in my opinion, I'd like to incorporate "Tesla" in the boat club name. Other than that, I could care less. And with regards to Fembot, while I'm not the immediate fan, it is catchy and Danny, we appreciate your thoughts to at least get the club going, let alone a name. However, I'm not sure that this name fits us and may turn new members off. Plus, its a little difficult to acquire permission to use additional ponds when I have to explain Fembot and they're laughing at me.

OK, I've said my piece on the subject. At least consider it. I'd like to belong to a club that is both respected for their values & consideration and allows new members the pride in saying, I belong to (insert boat club name) and this is what we are about.

I'm looking forward to see what the rest of your thoughts are!

Meniscus

Anyway, I hope that everyone and their families have a great Thanksgiving and wish everyone a safe holiday.

you would rather not explain fembot to somebody but explain teslas automatons???wow! im not a big fan of fembot either but i would rather have it stay the same than switch to the new one being forced on me..i know im outnumbered on this one but i would rather not be in a club thats named that..count me out and i will just run boats by myself like i used too.its just easier since i only have 15 minutes and 2 boats

I never even heard of the new name! Who cares if Tesla automated stuff all I know about is a coil. BTW I am not a happy camper right now ... my OS crashed on my #1 PC and I have spent many hours getting stuff off of the old hard drive (getting past security settings, etc.) and I am not looking forward to reformating and installing countless programs.

I feel your pain Egneg, I just formatted and installed windows and most of the device drivers. No pgms have been installed yet.
