New project while I wait for warmer weather to pour expandy foam into my Lobster hydro.
This is an ABS UL - 1 Hydro that I rescued from my brothers garage that has been gathering dust for the last 10 yrs.

My Plan for this is to run it in our club Restricted sport hydro class, Aq 1700 motor and 45 amp esc on 4s.

Started by adding the 2 sponson bulk head pieces which I will cut out at a later date to allow room for batteries.
To make the hull a little more rigid I laid down a thin layer of spray adhesive, then covered in fibre glass. Once this had dried, I mixed up some epoxy resin and soaked the the top of the fibre glass, I then added a 2nd layer of fibre glass over the top and gave this a good soaking.

Next step is to trim the excess fibre glass and add expandy foam to the sponsons. This will be a test for when I do the Lobster.

The hull is now nice and rigid with a good bit of weight in the front.

Looking good Heath.
I've always thought a UL-1 would make a good restricted boat.

Thanks paul, I'm going to mod the sponsons to hopefully get it to run better. I remember Scott had trouble with his yrs back.I may even cut the front wing out too.

Hull top and deck joined, I used JB weld, and made a bit of of a mess, but nothing a good sand won't fix.

Had a good day working on the boat today. Opened up the hatch and removed the front bulk head. Sanded the lip at the transom before mounting the strut and rudder, had to shim them out with pieces of styrene sheet. Added the steering rod and boot along with the water in take fitting.

Looking good Heath. You won't have the problems we had with Thorny's old boat since you've got lipo and brushless power! The sponson mods look nice though. It will be very interesting to see how it goes, I recall they did well in rougher water, so the smaller size might be OK. :thumbup1:
