My name is Steve and I've been for the most part a silent observer here for the past 3 months. I've read everything you guys have shared when it comes to the Blackjack and I wanted to say; "thanks!" You guys have been real generous with your knowledge. I also wanted to thank Rafael from Proboat for his input... I too am in manufacturing & design (RV Industry) and it's not common for manufacturers to be so transparent and willing to assist in public forums.

So with that, I want to share my results for all the silent green-peas researching Proboat and looking for answers, and I wanted to ask you guys where to go from here as far as "set-up," as you put it. Thus far, I've applied all the knowledge I was passed along here and have been able to come up with the following results:

ON 4-S (50c 5000 VENOMS)

oem prop
+3mm on strut
15*
34 mph

OSE S&B m445
+0mm on strut
15*
40mph

OSE S&B m445
+3mm on strut
15*
42mph... (motor 165*, esc 170*, bats 115*)

OSE S&B m445
+5mm on strut
15*
42mph

ON 5-S (50c 5000 VENOMS)

OSE S&B m440
+5mm on strut
15*
46mph... (motor 125*, esc 135*)

OSE S&B m440
+3mm on strut
15*
47mph... (motor 145*, esc 155*, connectors 160*)

6-S (50c 5000 VENOMS)

OSE S&B m440
+3mm on strut
7.5*
54mph... (motor 155*, esc 165*, connectors 160*)

... batteries always measure 105-115* at hottest point. All temp measurements were taken at the hottest points and after 4-5 minutes of WOT.

Where do I go from here guys?

Thanks,
Steve

steve great information man...Im following your lead on the prop for mine....also for a newb (me) is +3mm on strut above flush at top of brace? Is that what that means?

have you considered doing a dual pickup so you can run esc, and motor on own line? What timing on ESC, and is prop balanced and sharpened?

Thanks Barry. Glad it's helping. "+3" means that the bottom surface of the strut is 3mm higher than flush with bottoms of the ride pads. In other words, if you place the boat on a flat surface and adjust the bottom of the strut to be level with that surface... That's "0." +3 is 3mm raised "up" from there.

Make sense?

No, the boat cools real well as is. I have replaced the water ejection port with a larger diameter one, as well as increased the diameter of the water lines. The "S&B" above stands for sharpened and balanced. The "7.5*" above stands for 7.5 degrees... And so on.

Hi microsalmo.

Good information about your setup.
I could also share something from my experience.

Stock blackjack v3 on two 3s 5000mh 35c.
The prop is stock s/b from Chief.
My Strut in stock posission like you say 0.
Battery almost all the way back, timing 7.5.
This setup run in 49mph.
Changed the cooling lines so the water goes first against esc, motor and exit.

I have notice that when the strut is 3mm up then everything runs more hot, about 10-15c.

Have you notice the same that the electronics get hot when the strut is a bit up?
Is it a octura 440 do you use? How is this in size vs the stock?
Esc motor and lipo have ok temps, only the motor connectors that is hot after use, but sure it works without issues.

Thanks. It's good to share.

I would say generally my electronics run warmer the deeper the prop is. My batteries are all the way back so the nose rides high and the hull is aired out very nicely... No bounce unless I level the strut out. It's slightly negative... Just slightly. Lowering the strut level reduces run times and increases temps in my limited experience. I too run water to the ESC first... Then through the motor. But at 7.5* and +3 to 4mm temps just aren't an issue... Even on 6s. The props are the Octura m440 and m445 sharpened and balanced from OSE. The stock prop was ok but these definitely performed much better.

Maybe more can chime in?

Steve
