I just picked up a mean machine, which I don't have yet, with the following
Includes:
Wire Drive
Wire Drive Coupler for 5mm Shaft
SpeedMaster Mini Rudder
Strut Assembly
Carbon Filled Motor mount
Thru Hull Water Pickup/Discharge
Servo Mount
Hitec HS-645MG Servo

I am going to run a 9xl in it on a 4s lipo. I need a low cost esc at this time that will handle this.(just spent all my $ on lipos) I also need to know where to start with a prop. I was thinking the x440/3. Does this sound right?:confused2:

the 'mini rudder' will be marginal*, the mm needs a longer rudder to counter prop walk. I would use a 440 2 blade(or equivelent carbon prop) for the 1st 3 runs(till the drive line wears in)
edit
*the speedmaster 21 rudder works quite well.

nother thing; that motor will tend to run hot. don't run the boat more than 5 minutes w/o a cool down(less than that if you're not running the long water jacket) I'm seeing temps around 135-140F after 4 minutes(using an x440/3).

I agree with Rex on the motor runing hot and also on the rudder size. my mean machine has a 8xl and 120 hydra. after a bunch of prop experiments I settled on a 440-3 blade the boats a screamer on 2s. you will go crazy with a small rudder. I settled on the stock aeromarine rudder set back 3". Also watch your strut angle as much as you will want to bring the bow up the hull has a tendency to want to become airborn. Let the motor cool a bit between runs and you should have no problems just remember dont go to big on the prop size.

This one by turnigy. I am picking it slighty used with water cooling added to it.
I think turnigy used to be oemrc?????

I have been busy. I have it all together. I am just wiating for some bullet connector, props and tubing to get here. I am very disappointed in the quality of the gel coat. It has many flaws like cracks or chunks missing on the canopy. The body work and paint are coming next.

Some of the flaws that need to be filled.

rotate the water jacket about 20 degrees anti-clockwise(so the water discharge is at the top). that motor runs hot enough you don't want any more air in the jacket then can be avoided.
gelcoat:
do a thourgh job of inspecting the steps for flaws(they tend to show up when you're sanding/prepping the hull for painting.

OK, the set up has change alot. I will be running a HiModel 200 amp ESC with a Nemesis 6xl. I want to see what I can make her do on only 3s or 4s. I am painting it right now. Blue over white. The blue is done, and taped off for the with to go on. I want to get this done before I have back surgery next week. I won't be able to work on it for around 3-4 montths after that.

I am heating up the garage as I write this to get the painting done.

All taped up and no where to go........

A top on shot to show the blue......

OK, OK, OK!! I think my meds took over all intelligent thought! I will be useing the 6XL in a very light abs mono that I bought it for. I don't know what motor I will be using yet, but definately not one that hot. I want to run on 6s or 18 cells with the HiModel 200 esc I have. I will be picking out what motor to run after surgery tomorrow. Lucky for me I have a nice long recovery to get this done right. Thanks for trying to talk some sense into my medicine head!!!!

Update: I will be using a Nemesis 10XL with the HiModel 200amp esc. I still plan on running 4s and starting with an x640 prop. I will have all the decals on soon and post some pics!

That will be around 2500 watts. Might want to rethink that setup.

Well as much as I hate to do it, as soon as this is done, it will be forsale. Things are gettting tight after surgery, and me being off. I am just waiting on the motor to arrive and it will be forsale.:crying: The boys on the crawler forums can tell you I have sold alot lately. Oh'well, toys can always be replaced. Keep an Eye on the forsale section in the next couple of days. I might have more than this forsale.

I am doing the same build, same water jacket and 540. How the heck do you slid the jacket on???? The o ring keeps jumping off. I have used grease oil and everything else except KY jelly.
