Well I'm excited, hull showed up yesterday, some hardware should be here any day, as well as the cf. just picked up west systems 105/207 and all the goodies to go with it. No plans set in stone yet for motor yet, trying to decide that today so I can order the motor mount this week with the rest of the needed hardware odds n ends.

133606

4s or 6s would be best? This is for sport, but want to go fast, push 60 when weather permits, otherwise reliable. Any/all advice and suggestions are welcome as this is my first build.
Thanks in advance!

It's a slightly larger hull than a lot of the similar 4s setups, personally I'd favor 5 or 6s.

The Neu 1521/1Y(1577kv) is a great option IMO. Or another similar motor in the 1500-1600kv range. On 5s it runs great for regular running, and on 6s it pulls real hard. On more of a budget a TP 4050/4Y(1570kv) would probably have similar results, you could probably even bump up to a 4060, but that would be a bit overkill.

6s imo.
You want to krank with this thing don't you?
I wouldn't even bother with 4s, but it's your choice.
I have quite a bit of black silicone left for mounting battery trays if you need it. Lmk.

Indeed I want it scoot! I have miss geico 29, that is around 60 mph too.

Unfortunately the motor and speed control are out of stock, hopefully I'll get emails soon as they are in stock.

Time to cure now! I think the most difficult part is getting the cf to set how I wanted it, but it worked out ok. Now if UPS can make it thru the bad weather I might get my parts this week... Sheesh. Guess it's time to think about painting.

No idea yet, going to come up with something today though. Wonder if acetone is too harsh to wipe down hull for paint?
Some parts are supposedly showing up today too. I need to do some more reading on making the stuffing pipe too....

Nah acetone is fine. It's basically nail polish remover.
Another option is rubbing alcohol.

I'm gonna want to get the motor and mount sooner than later right? So I can configure layout for stuffing pipe right?

Neu 1521, not cheap! Lol doesn't matter, placing the order! 8mm shaft? $350! Anywho, anybody have a link to a stuffing pipe tutorial? I'll check out Keith Bradley's site too.
Thanks guys

You could use a tp 4060 or 4070 (I'd prefer the 4070, has 8mm shaft) instead of a neu. They are strong motors. Steve stocks most popular versions. I'd recommend 1600ish kv.

Your stringer looks to high up the transom. I haven't built a mono for a while but from memory it only wants to be about 5/16 to the centre of the tube. Make sure you leave enough tube sticking out the back to go into the base of your strut.

Yeh you're right about plenty of work left! Though I do have plenty of time on my hands this weekend, hoping to have everything mounted on the transom tomorrow.
So is prop sharpening/balancing pretty straight forward? I've only purchased a couple props for my mg, and I bought them s&b. I'd like to try and do it myself though.

Make sure you think about the dust you create. You don't want to breathe it in. I use water or oil while filing or sanding. Then clean the mess up after and dispose of the waste. Also think about the dust in your clothes. A regular dust mask probably isn't good enough. I use a $20 3m dual element respirator.

I just mounted the rudder where it fit, and far enough away from the stinger so when I turn the rudder the prop was still clear of it.
On the trays, yes just silicone. It actually allows movement which is good. If the trays are too stiff they're prone to break loose. I have a tube of it from Keith bradley I'll be happy to send you. It sounds crazy and I couldn't wrap my head around it at first, but it works awesome.

The servo I had originally used cheap glue.
After I re glued with west systems it was fine.
Lmk if you want the silicone bro, no charge.

Is it recommended to epoxy runners to hull, to mount the motor mount too? Or just mount it directly to the hull?

I used some flat cf Rod then mounted on top of that so the mount screws would be more accessible. If you notice, when the mount sits in the hull, some of the Allen screws will be tough to get an Allen wrench in them if needed

Jb weld works nice too. Either one honestly, but west is kind of thin, so a thickener like 406 silica helps thicken it up.
I'll pack a ziplock full of 406 in with your silicone to use at your discretion

I'm putting my motor mount in my mono too. I use jb weld. Here's some tips I've learned if you want to make I look good:

1) use a gram scale. Get the mix exact
2) it's thick. Use a heat gun on low heat to make it flow out. I use a paint brush to feather an blend it.
3) you can use graphite powder to darken it. Beware, it makes it thicker so you'll need to apply heat more often.
4) if you want it black, don't use epoxy dye in it. It makes it flexible. Unless you want that? What I do is after its cured, I scuff it up a little and mix up so cheap, clear 5 minute epoxy, then put 2 or 3 drops of black epoxy dye in it and brush it on. It looks killer when done.

I tried the 406 in my west but I can't get it to flow smooth. I think maybe I got a bad can of it? It's not completely powdery, it has small clumps or bb's in it that's hard to mix in. Maybe someone else who uses it can confirm if this is the way it's supposed to be? If not, I'll order more.
Here's my mono as is right now

Holy smoke in getting excited, tomorrow I'm gonna button down the rcvr, buy some straps for batteries, and thread lock everything. Maiden voyage maybe this weekend if I get a chance! Sometime next week or next weekend at the latest... This thing is about ready to go! Hell yeh!
It needs a paint job too, but that's the least of my concerns at this time. Thank you to all that influenced me and the helpful tips. Dana, kfx, Heath m.... You guys are awesome! I'll be sure to video the maiden run.

Set in tub for 30 min, no leaks! All that's left is some soldering connectors for the charger! Damn I'm pumped! More than likely maiden voyage this weekend, I'll def post video, even if it's all bad ( better not be) lol. Ready to rip! Paint is next, nothing as spectacular as dana's I'm sure but I'll do my best! Thanks guys!

Well I'm happy to say the maiden voyage went... Well pretty well. It ran super wet, have some setup adjustments to make, it was really windy out so not a bad thing. But it was pushing they the water pretty heavy. Stinger setup should be at what angle? Have a little link to mono trim tabs and stinger angles? I didn't get video, but I'll video next outting for sure. Overall ran really good, but I don't know what you call it but at full throttle the hull really twisted/leaned from the torque.

Hi. How do you know where to make the holes to install the hardware ? How do you seal the hole ?

Wolffman, determining the height of the hole from the keel has to do with the prop size you intend to run. That being said, a hole Center of 3/8” from keel would be good for this hull. A little higher for more stable running and lower for speed but less stability. This hull likes a 47-50mm prop

Nice! I want the boat as fast as possible. What about the trim tabs an the other tubes ?
Thank you

You want the bottom of the rudder blade about 1.5” below the prop and the trim tabs you set them up about 1/16” above the hull edge.
