So I got into FE boating a year ago with a Spartan and got completely hooked, I can't remember the last time I ran one of my cars/trucks Lol. I think I am ready to tackle building a catamaran but need someone to steer me in the right direction. I'm not looking to break speed records or do anything crazy, but I'd be happy with a boat that could potentially run 65-70mph. I really like the 32" River cat hull and think I might pick one up. What would be a good motor for this boat to run on 4-6S? Would a Leopard 4082 1600KV paired with a 180A ESC be adequate? What kind of run times can I expect with a setup like that? I get about 12 minutes on 40C 5000mah batteries in my Spartan and would be happy if I can get around that with this boat I want to build. Any tips/recommendations are greatly appreciated thanks.

I've built a couple of these, I'm no pro but I think I can point you in the right direction. Here's a solid setup:

Tp 4060 1720kv http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/proddetail.php?prod=tp-4060
Seaking 180 http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/proddetail.php?prod=ker-seaking-180-v3
This prop. http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/proddetail.php?prod=cnc-4514251
This strut, rudder and .187 shaft http://www.offshoreelectrics.com/proddetail.php?prod=ose-80978
This motor mount (it's the second item from the top, you'll need a 40mm support ring bought separately) http://www.kintecracing.com

Find some of my builds. It highlights a good bit more. This is a solid setup for about 70mph on 6s and should get you about 6+ minutes of runtime. I have a fiberglass hull I could sell you too. It's green with a carbon fiber canopy. Looks pretty awesome. If interested let me know.

Hey thanks a bunch for the quick reply that helps a lot. If I went with a lower KV motor would I gain some run time, or is the KV rating irrelevant to that? I might be interested in the hull, do you have any pictures of it? The only thing I'm worried about is how to find out where the motor should sit and drilling for the stuffing tube Lol. Any good write ups on how to do this? Thanks much I will look for your build threads

I have pretty much all that posted in my threads. Should show where the motor goes and everything. 70mph setup is not going to have a 12 minute runtime. It's always a trade off. Lower kv will lessen loads up some so more runtime will be netted there but it's not going to be extremely huge difference in 100-200kv.

Here's a pic of the hull. The whole idea was to use carbon sticker that say Rivercat and a Fightercat head to match the carbon top. I have the stickers that will be included

A lower KV would get you more run time, but not sure how much.
Lower KV = More winds = Higher resistance. this would mean less current draw, but you would also go slower.
You could keep the setup, and just use a smaller prop. That would lessen the amp draw, and speed too.
Bigger batteries would be easier. Revolectrix makes a 5500 mah pack.
