Where to find collet for my barbwire?

I am tired of the vibrations and other issues from the stock coupler on my sons barbwire and would like to get a regular clam down collet for it. I have read that others use them but am having no luck finding anything. It looks like it is a 3mm motor shaft and 2.3mm flex. Any ideas? Thanks.

I was able to measure the motor shaft with it in there and it is 3.04 exactly. A 3.2 will be too loose to spin true. The flex Is 2.3.

The second one though, that should do it. Sucks, I have ordered from ose 2 seperate times in the last week and didn't see that either time. Looks like I'll be payin shipping for a third time lol. I just realized, I was using Chrome to search the page for 3mm, that is 3.00mm. No wonder I kept missing it. Ugh. I did read that the .098 was a little big but should clamp down on it. Maybe I'll just swap to an .098 shaft too. Thanks man.

Ive used the .098" couplings on the same 2.3mm flexes, it does work ok. But you will have to tighten the nut pretty tight to get the coupling to hold good on the flex. Because the coupling is closing down more than intended it tends to close down at an angle rather than parallel on to the flex, gripping more at the nose of the coupling. This tends to crush the flex down over time letting the flex slip in the coupling but this is over a bit of time removing & retightening the coupling. Its still a better option than the dreaded stock grub screw coupling though.

Yup, that's what I had read as well. I just went ahead and ordered an .098 cable with it. The stock flex is pretty loose in there, so there should be plenty of room in there to go up to the .098. If not, it's not the end of the world to change out the tube. Sucked to pay $20 vs the $6 of the stock one but it is worth it for the reliability. If it doesn't work out, worst case is I need a .098 for another project coming up shortly anyway.

What size prop can I use with this setup

Well, used that .098 collet and lost the prop shaft. I had it cranked down as tight as I dared go with it and let someone use the boat while I watched. It looked slower than normal but figured it was him going easy on it, then after about 3 laps, the shaft came out. Assuming the speed loss was due to it slipping but honestly wasn't paying that much attention to it while he was running it. Glad I ordered the .098 cable at the same time as the collet! Hopefully this one stays put.

When I was using the .098 couplings on the 2.3mm flex I would tighten the collet down with no flex in the coupling really tight a number of times before using the collet. This closed the collet down enough to grip once the 2.3mm flex was fitted.

Ahh, that makes sense. Oh well, has an .098 now and only lost a plastic prop, no biggie.

Just solder the end which should give you a little more bite.

I thought about that. I do have one that is silver soldered on the end I was thinking of trying but had the .098 here, so I used it.

The minimono kit I made works very well with 098 cable and 1/8" stub with a new coupler.

Could you also maybe open up the prong gap in the collet?? Not sure what to really call it. But th space between each prong on the collet that allows it to close up. They may touch long before gripping the smaller diameter shaft

I was wondering that too, but it was easier to just swap to the .098 cable :). Plus, it is long enough that I can get at least two, probably 3 shafts from one, just need to order 2 more prop stubs.
