Random one, I have a small 11ft boat which is too big to row and has no aux motor in case of a breakdown. I recently thought whether a small RC "tug boat" could be fashioned to use in case of emergency as I am rarely more than a few 100m from shore.

Any thoughts? I was thinking big low KV outrunner using all my 3s packs in parallel and then some sort of Kort nozzle type drive? It would have to be compact to fit in a storage locker onboard.

get yourself a trolling motor like this.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/BISON-ELECTRIC-OUTBOARD-TROLLING-PROPELLER/dp/B00BE2M9QQ/ref=sr_1_4?s=sports&ie=UTF8&qid=1432904144&sr=1-4&keywords=minn+kota
it will cost you much less than a tow boat that would pull
your 11' boat. I have a 40lb trolling motor on my 14' jon boat
and it pushes it great.
