I have a pvc/pool noodle recovery boat that Diego Boy so nicly donated to me... Ok now here the question... I am useing the 3rd channel of a fs Gtc3 The 3rd channel does not allow a servo to go to neutral.. However I am using the 3rd channel to raise and lower a catch basket... My problem is how to get the winch to stop rotating when it reaches bottom and top. The winch NEEDS to stop at top and bottom. There is enough torque in this thing to rip itself loose or break stuff .

I could really use some ideas..... on how to control this winch accurately.....Thanks a huge bunch !!!!!!

OK so lets brainstorm

As of now I am planning on raising and lowering a basket using four lines one to each corner then us a spool to winch the lines, as of now it will keep spooling till unwound then rewind...Hard to see all this going on from across the pond....The winch I am using is a gear motor 6v 150rpm 170 mah... A low voltage motor with a gear reduction....I also have a bunch of small limit switches..... Ive got the parts now how to do.... This thing is super strong and maybe a bit fast. so control is critical

One way to do it is with a servo, micro switch, two relays and two limit switches.
What is the voltage of the winch?

That is what I did here.

6 volts have some gears to reduce speed just not sure how much... also plan on using a cc bec to control voltage at 4.8

how do the relay play in ? have a 20 ans 32 tooth gears but would have to make a gearbox not so easy without a mill had one before i got perm layed off...

Your third channel servo controls a micro switch that energizes, de energizes the coils on the relays. You'd have a up and down relay because you have to reverse the polarity on your winch motor right? The limit switches would be wired in series with the 3rd channel micro switch C NO/ NC & relay coils.

Is your third channel set, or can it be set to On/Off. In other words can it be set to operate a servo all the way in one direction, then when you switch it, it operates the servo all the way in the other direction?

Third chan is set... hit once goes one way hit again it stops hit again goes other direction till hit button again
Now if it was momentary that would be perfect

4 button pushes to go thru whole cycle

I have circuit that uses a servo and micro switch to operate the winch just need to figure out a way to stop it when it hits up and down.....Getting confusing in my brain or just go simple and bust out my seven channel radio but not so fond of that idea here is the circuit

It may be possible to use the trim to control up and down but still need to stop the motor from turning when limit has been reached

Next part of mission.. make the gearbox and spool assembly.... still need to control this beast... after power off still get 2 revolutions.....tmos mission...thank builders

Hi Lonewolf
If you used a sailwinch servo on the third channel it would go fully in and out. Just a thought.

I dug thru my supplies and found a gear reduction motor that i geared deown a bit more and made a spool and housing for a winch assembly... Now to make the enclosure for winch and electronics..........also have to make the basket and attch to boat then figure the cut off limit switch mounting...I hope to make some good progress this weekend...

Well ive got a working solution....A few minor details to take care but ready to test.... heres the other challenge... how well will the nihm cells do?? been sitting for about 5 yrs+ got 2 packs to charge and working on 2 others..... sow discharge and charge for a couple days then increase the rates of charge/discharge start low work hi.... and pray.... Did you know you can stuff over 4000 mah into a 3600mah intellect pack.....hmmmmmmm and it was only warm....ya i sit close to them while charging and check regularly..... only hope they hold a charge so far 2 packs look good,,, shall see with a test in recovery boat along shoreline.... keeping a rod and snag device close at hand....lol
