Well, I have not designed any new scale kits in a while, but I am finally getting back to it, and this is the first of a few I want to work on per some customer requests. This kit, is the '89-90 Winston Eagle Lobster "Extreme Series" 1/8th scale. I will be building this hull for a friend in the coming weeks. I just finished the CAD file, and wanted to share some of the 3d images. Some of the pieces are not shown in these pics as they are some sheeting parts, but for the most part, this is going to be one neat build. This is the most advanced scale kit I have attempted to date, and like the other Extreme kits I offer, it is very complete, and should make the builder VERY happy. If you remember my original Winston Eagle Lobster build some years ago you will see the differences in the ride surfaces, ram wing angles, and the fact that this kit includes the front canard flap system, and I even worked on a rear shoe frame kit, which is light, and will make installation a breeze. This kit also incorporates a new technique I did in my new GSX380 Sport 40 hydroplane kit...which is dowel locks inside the sponsons. This forces the sponson to mount up 90 degrees to the center section. It worked so well in the sport 40, that I plan to use this technique in any new 3 piece design I do. I hope you enjoy the look of this kit as much as I do. I will be ordering the laser cut kit this week, and hope to begin the build next week. I am probably going to make a top deck with integrated hatchs for this kit as well, but that will be shared later! Enjoy, Mike

Wow, that is quite a project and 1\10 scale would be cool. It would take me some time to finish it though.

Mike, designing these looks like a ton of fun.

I gotta ask cuz I'm ignorant.....how the heck do you close up, seal, and paint that slick hinge area on the canard? That's very cool but I keep thinking about how to do it?

I always wanted to build a canard wing on a worm gear so that you could twist a rod somewhere on the boat to make minor adjustments. No tape to hold the flap or anything. Like "it's windy out so I better dial in a quarter turn of canard".

I even went so far as to buy the gears. Just never got around to doing it.

why not have it hooked up to a gyro..auto leveling

I have often considered using an auto leveler, pitch control for R/C subs. Very small light units, and I don't think one would have to use full size servo. This hull might be a good candidate for this experiment.

This unit is about the size of a postage stamp, and the sensitivity is adjustable.

I saved the file in 1/10th scale, just need to do all the adjustments for the parts to fit correctly. I saved in in GAS scale too, so I can modify as soon as I have time. My next project is the GSX310 31" sport hydroplane kit. I have the FE version designed, but need to do the center section for the nitro kit...then build and test. I will be getting back to doing a lot of designing new stuff this year. Last year, I needed a break. Got kinda burnt out, but the creativity is flowing again! Hopefully 2015 will be a fun year!

Ron, I don't sell everything I build! That's not so, haha!

Was thinking if I could get enough pics I could use it as a practice for my solid works schooling....And then maybe do a build But for now have more than enough projects to finish...Good luck I cant wait to see the end results and how well it runs and handles... Have fun..

Just got my 1/8 scale today. WOW, going to be very light. Mike did a fantastic job (as usual) on this frame kit.

I also have one of these and almost ready to apply the deck skins, what's your plans for power?

Thinking of using one of my Scorpion 4035/800's on 10s. Take up less space in that already small tub, and will keep the COG down low. That's the plan anyhow.

You must plan on using 2 5s lipo packs correct? Will you have enough mah for a race?

2 5s 6000mah packs, yeah, it's enough :) This boat is going to be quite a bit lighter than my T-4 and that's what I run in it.

Well, I am finally back at building this boat. Been on a long break from building, but finally finding some time. Here is where I am now. I ordered some 1/2" and 3/8" carbon rod and collars today, and the cowling is getting ordered today as well. I will be finishing up the ride pads tonight. Enjoy, Mike

Looking good Mike I am hopefully going to have a bit of time to glue up some pieces on my kit this weekend!

Hopefully Mike doesn't mind me updating this thread with his pictures that he uploaded on his FB timeline :tongue_smilie:

Does the deck and sub hatch work come finished as part of the kit? and for the center formers, is the round portion at the front also included?

looks friggin awesome!! Seems to be a VERY complete kit and full of intuitive engineering and craftsmanship!! hail to the king!

The deck and hatch are indeed part of the kit, and preshaped to work with the RC boat company canopy. The round nosing on the front ram wings is just a piece of mahogany I glued on the front, and the outside edge of each ram wing extends forward, showing the proper curve, so you can use a disk sander, and back sand up to that curve line...Its easy actually!
