Location:
North Oakland Elks Lodge
3100 Pond Road
Leonard, MI
Time: 1:30 pm

For those that don't know this about us already.....we're a pretty laid back group. Our meetings are typically effective but not terribly formal.

Primary objectives will be:

Shore up the club race schedule.
Show off what we've all been building.
As we have a lot of fresh faces I would like to discuss a typical race day. What the procedure is. What to expect. We don't want anyone feeling intimidated. Call it a refresher for us vets.
Collection of club dues
Collection of NAMBA dues. NAMBA membership is required to practice and/or race at the Shelby pond. Our District 2 Director Fred Siewert, has offered to collect the NAMBA membership dues and send them all in together as a convenience to our members. NAMBA membership is $50 for adults and $25 under 18 years. NAMBA membership is separate from club membership. This has worked really well in the past. Should you choose to take advantage of this be sure to bring a completed application. The application can be found in the forms tab at www.namba.com

There will certainly be other things guys will want to talk about. There always is. Some matter some are just bench racing. Mike and I will probably Indian leg wrestle or something.

In addition, I wanted to let you all know that the Elks are hosting their annual Winterfest on Feb 14th during the day. We like to support their events when we can. They've been really good to us over the last few years. They have all kinds of outdoor activities planned. Great for the kids.

We'll get some John. Maybe some pics of the lake too. I don't think I've ever seen it this deep in snow. Calling for 8 more inches this weekend too.

Have boat / camera, will travel.

Um, wouldn't native american leg wrestle be less offensive Terry? I mean really, in our school district "Chippewa Valley" the state refused funding to the school unless we removed the 'feathers" from the school logo. :hide:

Well that sucks. I kinda wanted to see your new P sport.

..................does you nephew like toy boats? Bring him out. We'll contaminate him. We could make him race an SV this summer. I got 2!

Always work'n the angles.

So the 'no' has turned into a 'maybe'. They aren't feeling well, so the party might be cancelled.

Not sure how it happens, but I always end up being the last guy to leave. I'm either closing the bar with Mike, pulling bouys with Kenny in 33deg water, or riding around on a four wheeler at midnight with Terry.

We peed for distance off the dock. Don't eat the yellow snow.

Ty was in his room reading the NAMBA rule book. He comes out and says "there's nothing in there about how old you have to be to CD a race". Busted. Had to tell him it was my rule.

Guys, again, read your rule book. Don't let a 15 yo know more than you do.

From Mikes build thread..................

Terry,
Five scales in the district. Time to find a bigger pond?

That's just local. There are more in the district. 2 in OH that I'm aware of but I doubt they'll come up for club racing. Then Tom from the Transom Twisters has one too so that's 8 potential. Now I wouldn't push the club to make a change to accommodate boats we've not seen at the pond but the Q's have outgrown our pond too. Even P sport has gotten sketchy.

It's a delicate balance kinda thing. We certainly could move to a bigger body of water but not if it costs us bodies. If guys suddenly don't want to participate because of a drive for instance. Burton for example is beautiful....... but it's way the heck up in Burton. Can't leave a course in. Ackkkk. It also needs to be possible/manageable for the guys that do the grunt work to do that grunting. If it's a journey to the center of the earth it wont get done. Done it that way before too.

I've watched ponds for years that just haven't panned out. There's a killer pond at 21 mile road and M53 that I can't find the right people to ask about access. The Lions have a pavilion right there that will cover 60 people easy. There's even a vending booth that has stainless counters like a kitchen. But they don't own the pond. It belongs to some state agency. Everybody always says "oh, that's the state". That's like saying "just place a call to Washington"

I still want to look at that Messina pond. I can't figure out why they aren't already hosting races there instead of Spencer. They're only a couple miles apart. Has to be a reason. Have to track Burt down on that location. Mike and I may be meeting with that club to talk about possibilities. I can ask then.

Terry,

I know I live quite a distance from the club area, but would be more than glad to do some leg work / research on various pond that you guys are looking at. Tracking down owners, access possibilities etc. Just let me know if you need some help in that area.

Mike
