I've just bought the above and have a slight issue I need help with. I plan to run a single 1900kv motor on 4 or 5s. The problem I have is the transom. It's not flat. It has 1.5x1" rectangle in the middle that sticks out about half an inch. How do bolt the strut assembly to it. There seems to be no room

This is the hull I have, cheers for any build advice you can offer

Most folks run twin motors on this and only the rudder is mounted on the center section. This being said there are rudder strut combos that have an offset rudder. You will have to look for one that will mount to the transom given those dimensions.

I've seen far more single motor apparitions and river cats than twins. Op see some of my build threads, will give you an idea. OSE sell the strut/rudder assy you need.

And here's the strut assy you need..this is what I use on my builds. FYI rivercat = apparition

I've got the strut as above my problem, I think, is my sausage fingers and getting the nuts and washers on the bolts. There's no room down there. I'll take a photo when I'm in the garage later

Kfxguy your a hero cheers. Read your build thread and the carbon plate and riv nits is the way forward. Wish we had a forum like this in the uk

Your welcome. Look, there's a couple ways to to the nuts. They way I do it is i have a nut driver that I cut the plastic handle short and I put a little silicon in the docket to hold the nut and washer. There a better way that I saw a member here doing (srislash maybe? Please correct me if I'm wrong) it's a little three or four pronged "grabber" thing.

AstecModels (http://astecmodels.myfreeforum.org/index.php) is the UK FE boat forum, it is nowhere near as busy as this one as hackers took it down a couple of years ago and it hasn't really built back up, but there are still a small hardcore of experienced racers that frequent there and are happy to help out should you have problems like this.

Just a quick question. Where do you mount your motor for best best balance. I know I can adjust the cg with the batteries but what would be the best place for the motor.

Here's a couple I built to give you an idea. I can measure when I get home.

Right another stupid question sorry. I need to sort batteries. I have a 1200w 1900kv motor and a 120a esc. I presume 5s 5000mah 30/40c batteries would the max. What prop would you recommend I have an x640 detongued and sharpened but am open to suggestions. Oh and do I go 2s and 3s. Think if buy 2 sets of each then I can get warm with 6s on occasion.

ehhhh... not really what i would use in this hull. Id use a 40mm motor at 70+mm long. guess it depends on the speed you want.

mattf1000

It only for fun I'll upgrade as I go. I am hoping for 50mph+ and I hope I'm being realistic.

You could do a 50mph setup very easily. My first time in the water mine did 62mph. If you want cheapthen a leopard 4082 around 1600kv on 6s with an x642 prop should put you where you want to be, on 6s. I try to go higher voltage with lower kv to keep current down. 6s with about an 1800-1900kv motor (with good power) will put you at 75+ with everything tuned in. Please note I've got ALOT of experiment time with this same boat. I have about half a dozen of them in my possession right now. I've got 97.5mph out of mine with no failures, so I do know a little about this hill. I don't mind helping you at all. I would recommend highly that you use quality packs (no nano techs or cheap China packs) with at least a 45-50c rating and at least 5000mah. Any less than that and your stressing electronics. Keep wires short.

Like good! Btw since I last posted, I did one with a castle 1515 2200kv and a seaking 180 on 4s it did 50.5mph with an x642 prop. Not breaking a sweat. I have video of it if you wanna see.

Yeah that would be cool cheers . What does the 1515 stand for. I still don't understand the numbers

kfxguy
03-03-2015, 02:46 PM
1515 is a neu-castle motor. It's the size of it. It's 75mm long (castle version) and 40mm diameter. Here's a video

NativePaul

Neu, and Castle Creations are American companies so there sizes are in imperial measurements, the first 2 digits are the can diameter in tenths of an inch so 1.5 inches, the second 2 digits are the rotor length in tenths of an inch, again in this case 1.5 inches long.

Similar formats are used the world over with the first 2 digits describing the diameter of either the can or rotor, and the second 2 digits the length of the can or rotor. Most countries and manufacturers us millimetres though not inches, and it is more usual for both figures to be can, or both to be rotor than mixed like Neu.

Got it wet on Thursday, not brilliant couldn't get anywhere near full throttle without losing drive. Stripped it down to find the 4mm 2 piece shaft had broken. It had split the prop shaft tube where the square drive goes in. I've ripped out the stuffing tube and motor mount to replace it all with upgraded 3/16 flex, stuffing tube, strut and 3 piece motor mount, cheers Mike at Performance models for all your help.

I never use anything but a 3/16 flex. I've had .150 flex fail on the first run with a brand new rtr boat. First thing I do is make sure it has a good 3/16 flex.

I've got the strut as above my problem, I think, is my sausage fingers and getting the nuts and washers on the bolts. There's no room down there. I'll take a photo when I'm in the garage later

Using silicon tubing also helps with holding the nut in place or putting screws in hard to reach spaces.

Not too bad! I don't attempt to drive and video at the same time. If my son isn't with me, I get no video lol
