New to the building a boat from scratch. After your cut your bulkheads what is your preference of glue used to adjoin them? Also what do you use to laminate the frame before skinning it?

Thanks
Daniel

I use aliphatic resin and think it offers the best strength to weight but is not good for gap filling so parts have to fit well. 1-2 hour epoxies are a good alternative but are less convenient as they need mixing and are a fair bit heavier, but fill gaps well, you can fillet joints with epoxy very easily for a little more strength unlike aliphatic, but if you want extra strength in an joint you will get more strength at the cost of more time using a wood fillet whichever glue you use. I also use cynoacrilate to speed things up in certain areas, but it is pretty brittle so I wouldn't do a full build with it.

Thank you for your insight !! I just printed up my plans last week. I should be getting some balsa in the mail in the next day or so. cant wait to get started on cutting the frame out!!!

Tack together with thin superglue. Use medium superglue and accelerator for tuff to hold bends without clamping. Use thin epoxy to seal and make hull stronger. I inject epoxy into hard to reach areas by drilling hole and using syringe (sealed top deck). You can buy the graduated mixing cups, popsical sticks, and syringes at Tower.

Have a read through mikes GP series kit manual, in the link below, & you will pick up some ideas & techniques.

I use Medium CA glue for the main frame build. Epoxy resin to seal all the joints & the wood, & Epoxy to glue the top skins on.

I Second 785boats reply ...... CA glue to start the process and I use west systems to finish it. West systems make a bunch of different additives that makes the job much easier. Each one will give a different characteristic some enable good gap filling properties along with increasing bonding strength. On the other hand they have some additives that will make sanding and shaping much easier then just straight up epoxy. I would definitely search the forum there are a bunch of threads that will be of use to you along with other related topics that will help as well.

Im waiting on building supplies, in the meantime ill be blueprinting the bottom of my MG29 and painting it before I start any real boat building.

If your looking for specific product no's I use West's System as well, 105 resin, 205 fast hardener, 207 special clear hardener for sealing the wood, and 405 filler for fillets.
If your in a hot climate you might have to go to a slow hardener.

I use strong RAKA 127 thin resin and non blush 350 hardener. If you need it thicker just add filler such as fumed silica or microballoons. It also works good as a finishing resin
