I don't have an IMPBA membership. Is there a single event insurance that can be bought instead of buying full insurance for the year?

If you just want to play and have NAMBA you can pay the $10 one time event fee (bring your NAMBA card).

To set a record you must be an IMPBA member, after Sept 1st the fee is reduced to $30.

Mark and Mike have added another 3' to our driver's stand putting the base some 8' up.

That plus balloons for buoys make for great oval trials too!

Another great event hosted by our FAST crew Mike Nowicki, Mark Stein and Mikey Ross, thanks guys, just couldn't do it without you. Mikey was a little under the weather and didn't make it out this time but I'm sure we'll see him in the Spring.

Mike and Mark's addition to the driver's stand made a huge difference not only for those driving the course but for SAW too, great work guys.

Mother nature tested us a bit, we got rain, wind and even ice pellets on Saturday but with the wind from the west (normal direction) the course was quite runnable both days. There were a couple of small windows where the 'ol girl laid flat and some fast passes were made.

The IMPBA has decided to award speed patches free of charge right at the events, so be sure to ask if you want a patch for a certain speed or oval time.

Amp heads Keith Kirchen, Joel Mertz, Shawn Swain and Mike Ball all had good running stuff. Joel had a 2.485 sec or 90.543 mph pass with his P Catamaran and Shawn made a 2.255 or 99.778 mph shot just missing his 100 mph patch with his Q Catamaran. Keith had some fast Cats as always and had a 2.126 sec or 105.832 mph Q pass backed up with a 2.132 to set the record at 2.129 or 105.683 mph. Keith also nursed his S Cat around the corners to set the 1/3rd oval at 28.064 sec., congratulations Keith, looks like you own those big Cat records!

Mike Ball had a nice running P Hydro and with some great driving set the 1/3rd oval at 19.143 sec. Mike also ran his Phil Thomas Q Sport Hydro to a record setting 23.144 sec oval on Sunday, congrats Mike! Pop Steve came up Sunday for a visit, great to see you again Steve.

Scott Tonak had a super running Whiplash with Quickdraw power and ran a best time of 21.873, just 2 sec. off the LSG 27 1/3rd oval record held by Troy Hammons.

Mark Stein's finally got his Mutt cornering like it's on rails but some mechanical problems kept him from any good times, I'm sure he's got a shot at the Sport 40 oval down the road. Mike Nowicki has his 20 hydro singing the high notes again and made several passes in the 90's despite the lumpy conditions.

Bert Dygert's 1/8th Circus Circus ran several very respectable 26's, best being a 26.148 sec. oval, nice running boat Bert.

The Murany's (Doug, Dave and Matt) came out to test and run in some motors, good so see you guys as always. Their friend Rick Donoghue had a good time also.

All in all another good weekend, remember the IMPBA Speed patches are up for grabs, see ya in the Spring!

Thanks again to the entire FAST crew! Your continued commitment to keep this event alive shows. Each year you do a great deal of work behind the scenes to improve the grounds and the event as a whole. Thanks guys.

Terry, thanks for the crash course on prop voodoo! I was a little too apprehensive to start tweaking myself!

Thread lake's so well sheltered from the normal western winds it was quite runnable both days.

I've got to come out and try to beat that 23.144. I think I can, I think I can, lol.... Got to be there to find out. Nice stuff gents. Too broke to make it out, maybe spring though. I'll make a plan.

That's the fun of it Ray, I think 23.144 is a solid number, but I know there are racers/boats out there capable of running quicker times. The thing I like about the TT's you can put real times on the boat and the driver (no BS involved). You don't have to worry about traffic or dead boats. Actually it's a great environment to test props and boat set up. At the end of the day, lap times have more meaning than top speed IMHO.

I made multiple 100mph passes both days, but they were in "chop". I also realized after going back and watching videos that there were a few spots in the lake where waves would just swell for no apparent reason. There is a good portion of that lake that is somewhat sheltered from the wind, so the windy conditions make for some odd waters. It could look relatively smooth near shore, but you go out in the recovery boat a little ways and there are some substantial rolling waves there. I actually had the best luck when the water looked the most choppy. Small chop isn't a problem but that subtle roll will take you off your game in a hurry.

This is the best it got all weekend. Sunday night, just as it was getting dark. I let off on my first pass because I was aimed a bit closer to shore than I was comfortable with. 99 times out of 100 I would have let off on my second pass too...it was over by the time I passed the first timing light and it never recovered. When you absolutely know it's going to be your last chance of the year to put down some good numbers, that trigger finger gets awfully heavy, and you end up just gritting your teeth and hoping for a little luck. No such luck this time. The sound of this one hitting the water would send chills up your spine in person.

We had a lot of this stuff, where it was runnable for fun but of course limiting. I think Mike set an oval record in conditions like this too. The P-rigger he brought was a total rocket around the course...very impressive.

What a beautiful boat this was! Carbon/Kevlar construction that Bert molded and laid up himself. It's worth coming out just to see some of the work that guys like Bert and Terry do. These guys are on another level.
