It’s time for the next NAMBA Straight Line event at Legg Lake California. Only one week away on August 22, 23 & 24.

If you know or think you can make it, please send Mark Grim an email or phone call so we can get a headcount. NAMBA cards will be checked at the event so please make sure you bring your current membership card, or you can renew your membership on site at the event.

Contact: Mark Grim

If you have any general questions about rules, running or equipment post here or send a PM. We encourage all to come out and run or just watch and bench race. The Amigos and SoCal FE try to support any racer who travels to the event and needs some assistance.

The weather looks favorable for the event, but be sure to bring your sun block and shorts as the temps will be in the 90’s all weekend.

We’ll post results on this thread as the weekend progresses, so stay tuned for the latest breaking news.

Thanks much,

Boyd Marshall

Tony,
sorry this is off topic: I am leaving that day at midnight, if you will be there grooming the lake, it may be my only chance to see you and hand the camera to you, I won't be back until first week of Sep. and don't know if work will pile up.LMK, thanks!

Tim,

That would work. If you're too busy getting ready I can understand so TCB. If you do come, use the Durfee entrance.

The August event has the longest daylight hours, but it also has the roughest water of the year in the middle of the day due to the wind. We typically have several good hours in the morning and wait till the afternoon winds to calm down and usually get another hour or more in the evening. Plenty of time in between to run boats that need rougher water.

If you plan on attending please remember to bring your approved fire extinguisher and a shelter is highly advised. Please also bring a lunch or be prepared to run out and gran something as Kim will not be cooking at this event.

Any questions? Post here or send us a PM.

This is what can happen when a CELL goes dead in the middle of a 135mph pass, instant pull to the left, lucky me there is zero damage only cosmetic. If this would have happend Friday it would have been in tha water Saturday.

Very nice! (Well some not so nice)

Question:
P-Cat, can you run twin motor setups with 4S to each motor and still be leagal in ths class?

Yes, NAMBA allows dual motors in the P Catamaran class. I run dual motors in my P Cat with one 4 cell 5000 mah battery to each motor

Hi Boyd,

Thanks for the reply. Great results!

Is the twin motor setup the same for all classes? or just Cat?

Kris,

P thru T can run "any motor(s)"... for all hull-types.

M2 and N2 are single-motor only... even for Cat (would love to see that one change... Twin-N2 Cat would be fun)...

Darin Jordan
08-27-2014, 04:19 PM
OH... P-LTD specifies and "SINGLE" motor as well...

Darin Jordan
08-27-2014, 04:21 PM
... and... at least by my reading of the rules, P-OPC and "T-OPC" (open) can run "Any amount and/or size
of motors" (That's copy and pasted directly from the rulebook)...

So... are we going to see that TWIN P-OPC when you are here??

And it is not just twin motors allowed but any number of motors. One racer showed up with a 4 motor conquest. He did have to use only 2P maximum though under our rules.

Actually, the rules don't say that... We don't have paralleling limits any longer.

What they say is that you are allowed a maximum amount of mAh... 10,000 for P and Q, I think 12,000 for S and T... You have to distribute that across the motors how ever you please.

For example, with two motors in P, you can either power both together by a single ESC and 10,000 mah@14.8V, or by 2 ESCs with 5000 mAh each @14.8V.

I need to go back and read, but there might be something in there about how one can divide up Voltage across the motors as well, but I don't recall exactly.

Bottom line would be that you can't have more than the maximum amount of allowable mAh on board when running the maximum class voltage.

The guy with the 4 engine cat had 4 - 6s 2500 packs. One for each motor. Having such small packs really hurt any chance of getting any records. I ended up beating him with my mono.

Markit was actually worse than that , I had 4s series into 2s x2 . They were 5000mah Turnigy 40c , instead of making a battery splitter I just took the esc's and paralleled them by soldering there battery wires together . If I only had the new thunder power batts I would have had a chance :frusty:

I new somehow you only had 2500 mah going to each motor. I would have liked to see that boat run on 4 5000 packs. 1 to each motor.
