OK so i have 2x 4cell lipo's spanking new waiting to bite at something
what configuration is the stock BJ in ? IE is it set up for running series or parallel ?

i ask because i don't want to put in 2 x 4cell bats if its in series and end up running 8cell because i think something would go pop !!!!

so iam hoping its in paralle there for the mah increases and not the cell capacity
as running a 4 cell would be OK well i hope does anybody know ?? is there a need for a bec or anything please chime in if you have run or are running the BJ on 3,4 or more cells

i have 2x 4 cells lipo's

the 4 cell in each pack can be configured in many different ways to run from 7.4V to 14.4V. so without knowing how the cells are arranged it is impossible for anyone to know

The packs should say something on them similar to what I previously posted.

soz they are 4s1p

Then those would be 28.8V in series and 14.4V in parallel. 28.8 is quite a bit over the voltage of the stock esc

so is the stock BJ in parallel ??

yep but it willbe less power than running 2 6 cell sub c's

OK so at the moment iam running 2x 7.4v 6600mah lipo's so as its in parallel iam getting 7.4v @ 13200 mah

so likewise if i put these 2 x 14.8v 4 sp1 2250mah I'll be running at 14.8v @ 4500 mah and would that be OK for the stock BJ ???

lol ya that about covers it.

I am a green horn to the RC world. I got hooked about a month ago when I went to the cottage and my brother shows up with a RC Nitro boat. I had a blast. So I go into the local hobbie shop and start looking. The BJ styling really caught my eye...love the Cats. They had a used one, completely stock. Bought 2 Venom 3000 NiMn batteries, their recommendation for me to start, and a Prophet charger.

Long story short...I am kinda hooked and want to get more performance from it. It cuts out, I believe due to a lack of power. I have been reading alot on here and another forum, and I want to change the harware, and go to better battery setup. I am completely lost when it comes to electronics. I thought it was as easy as charge and go...but I'm quickly finding out that there is WAYYYYYY more to it. In order, what would you suggest I do to mod it up? I don't want to do it all at one time, to keep costs spead out a little, I'm not thinkning about racing...just kicking my bro's nitro butt...lol

OK...not so "long story short" :tongue_smilie:

firstly i would strongly recommend these quick and simple mods

1 switch over to lipo this will open your eyes and dramatically improve performance with longer run times and greater speed, for this you will need the proboat programming card cheap off eBay if you shop about or borrow one this enables you to programme the BJ's ESC from nimh over to run on lipo cells you will need
2x 7.4v lipo Bat's the higher the mah the better but over 3000mah and rated no lower than 20c and a charger and balancer

that will put you right in the ball park

other mods .....change your prop
but a must for capsize eventualities is to move the antenna mount to the back of the boat and block the hole on the canopy to prevent water seeping in when it overturns, block the pilots canopy air scoops as this will also prevent water infiltrating into the pilots eyes lol and always use hatch tape before setting on the pond

Thank you for your help...very appreciated. I have belonged to alot of different forums over the years, and from what I can see, there is an abundance of very knowledgeable and helpful people here. I'm just starting out, so I'm sure I will be picking more brains along the way.

I will be stopping in and going over some of these things with the shop next week. I believe the LiPo's will be the first thing I do. When I bought the boat, the dealer was kind enough to throw in the ESC programmer, so I am good there.
Next I think some harware and a prop will find it's way to the boat. One step at a time though...
