Tyler texted me these last night...

P-Hydro - Brian Buass (1st), David Newland, and Doug Twaits Jr.

117164

T-Hydro - Tyler Garrard (1st), Ken Haines, and Brian Buaas.

117165

I THINK that's the finishing order. I know I got the 1sts right. Correct me if I'm wrong on the 2nd and third.

It is of note that Tyler and Brian are both running 6S power systems, unparalleled, in the T-Hydros...

Nicely done, everyone!

Our club tee-shirt are neon orange as are the GP tees.

I'd like to say thank you to all who made the trip.

The combination of the MMEU crew, the Elks, Waters, and Carly made this the best toy boat event I've ever experienced. A few hiccups but overall stellar.

After I wake up from my comma I'll try to share some of the little stories that caught my eye.

My favorite at the moment was relayed to me:

Walking along the tents someone saw Landon put his arm around Tyler and say "hope you're not getting sick of hanging out with me. Been a long week."

Some random thoughts:

KUDOS to the MMEU club for putting on another great event...gets better every year. ..Thanks to Terry D, Bob Z, Tom C, Fred S and the rest of the herd for the work they did, and are probably still doing. The work involved must be mind numbing!

KUDOS to the Elks lodge and members for basically leaving the Lodge open 24/7 for our use. Basically, their lodge was made to feel like our home.

KUDOS to the MMEU herd again for providing a weeks FREE lunches for all the racers.

Thanks to Pete "Chip" for the new turn fin for P-Sport Hydro, and refusing payment when offered.

Doug Jr. for taking time to set up a rigger for my team mate!

Bob Z's wife for the great chocolate cake!!!!

Brian B....he's hilarious..looks like a pro wrestler and a heck of a nice guy.

Mike B and Klaus (dad).....class acts all around.

Jay S for manning the retrieval boat lots of times.

The Biblical rain on Tuesday. :sinking-guy: Quick, grab two of everything and head for the Ark!

Doug P's P-Spec Cat with a water-cooled motor....but no motor jacket!

Mike P for his advice to the racers.."in oder to win, you have to be faster than the other guys"...or something like that.

And lots more that I can't even think of right now....sorry if I left anyone out..so many good people just wanting to have fun.

For anyone on the fence as to whether they should attend one of these events...don't hesitate...you will have access to some of the best minds (or demented minds..depends on your point of view I suppose) to help you out. Ego's don't seem to exist at these things....Bring your RTR or whatever you have and prepare to have fun.

On the last day there was a crew by the name of Hello Aerial that came out a few hours before we finished up. Unfortunately I did not have a chance to talk with any one of them. I think they are just getting started up since their website says to put your e-mail address to be notified when they are up and running. Anyway they have some serious equipment (full on hexacopters and I think octocopters) and the pilots definitely know what they are doing. I managed to find their YouTube channel and watched some of their demo videos. All I can say is wow, and I think I speak for everyone when I say that I can't wait to see a demo of some of the footage they captured.

I was less than thrilled with their behavior or their attitude but the equipment was incredible. We'll see what they came up with. They filmed some Q hydro and 1/8 that should be killer.

Darin-Fred's working on getting full heat sheet data on RCRACINGEVENTS and NAMBA's site will have fast time data. Just need more time. A special thanks to David Santistevan, NAMBA's website chairman, for posting the data as if he has nothing else better to do! We'll continue to input data throughout the week.

What a great time, guys. Thanks for all of MMEU's efforts, as well as the Elk Lodge Members, for making this event such a success. Fred has been burning the midnight oil for months now to make sure this thing went off without a hitch. You guys would be shocked if you knew how much time he invested just in heat sheets/adds/drops/changes alone! it's a daunting task.

A few stand outs for me. First off, the kids. MMEU found themselves in a situation where 5 kids were actually better than the Kids R Boaters, Too class, but maybe not quite up there with the adults (well, except for Ava, as Pags mentioned-more on that later). They set up the kids with their own heats, and had the top NAMBA drivers pit for them. The expression on their face when they knew that Doug Twaits, Brian Buaas, Simms, etc would be helping them ALL WEEK was priceless. And, it paid off, too. All of them are hands down better at this hobby after 5 days of racing at this event. And, Pags is right, Ava drives better than he does. I threw everything I had at her in a P Mono heat and it was only her flipping that got me past her!

Marc "Hobby Master/Roll Your Own" Cerankowski is an MMEU/Elks member that is new to the hobby. He DNF'd his first heat of SV-27 and was frustrated. We talked a bit and I pitted for him the remaining 3 rounds. 1200 points later he was sitting tied for 1st with Mike Ball, and ended up beating him with fast time! Seeing his eyes light up when he realized what he can accomplish with the encouragement of an experienced pitman was a feel-good moment for me.

Q Offshore. 8 boat heats all day. 20 bodies up on the drivers stand. Not 1 hit. In fact, during all 5 days of racing you could count the number of hits with less than 1 hand (sadly I did one of them...sorry Mike Buck!). I've seen more carnage at a flippin' club race than what happened at this entire event. Anyway, back to Q Offshore. I've never zoned like I did on the final heat as I was on Twaits hip the entire 4 minutes. My boat had a bit more speed, but he just wouldn't give up lane 1. At the 3:55 mark, I finally broke him as he went skipping off the course and flipped at the pin. But, I couldn't grab the next 1/4 lap! We finished tied that heat, and I only had him by 1/4 lap overall. And, that's not the only offshore class that ended that close. It took me a few hours to shake that one off.

Watching the Q Sport Hydro heat. 7 boats? Davis sticks his so hard that 3/4 of his boat is buried in the mud 10 feet deep...maybe more. Boat is recovered by the diver, and Terry has it up and running the next round.

More will come to me as I find more time. Just need to get more caught up @ work.

Thanks again, MMEU! Rock on Rochester-North Oakland Elks #2225!

Still tired. I'm typing a post in word first so I don't have so many spelling or grammar mistakes. What a week! I'm quite jazzed to get a 3rd in Q-Sport Hydro when the boat has only seen a dozen laps or more in practice before the race. That speed is crazy!

I feel bad that I hit Bob Zola's Q-Sport, really, really stupid... my pit man was even yelling in my ear GO WIDE!!!!!! Sorry Bob I zoned out into tunnel vision...

Thanks to all of the MMEU Club for putting on a truely great event.
Special thanks to Fred Siewart and Terry Davies for their hospitality.
They hooked me up with a good transmission repair shop to heal my
travel scars. Terry even loaned me his wheels for the week so I did
not even have to rent a car during those unexpected repairs.

This was the first time that I had met Al Waters in person. What a
gentleman and a wonderful ambassador to our sport. Thanks Al ...great job.
Congrats to Dave Newland for his high Points Championship.....he truely earned it.
and thanks for all the hard work that you do as the FE Chairman that
goes hand and hand with each years nationals.
Congrats to the West Coast Racing Team, Brian Buass, Tyler Girard, Dave Newland
for their Team Points victory again holding Jason, Terry and I in that all too familiar
2nd place position :frusty:
Congrats to Dougie Twaits for the Mr. Offshore Award....well done.
And what an intense match race we had in the final P-Mono heat.
I obviously have more work to be done on my driving skills, but it was fun.
Thanks to Dougie Twaits, Brian Buass, Mike Paganelli and Jason Sims for the
many boat and prop set-up tips.....they all made a huge difference.
Thank you Darin Jordan for building me that stellar OPC. Thank you Terry Cowger Sr.
for building such a fast N-2 Sport and P-sport Hydro.....2 of the very best in the field.

My biggest thanks goes to Jason Sims for making the trip with me, fixing the trailer,
spelling me on the long drive, pitting almost every heat, keeping my head in the game,
coaching me on driving lines, and giving me the best chance I could ever have at my
failed attempt at the high points. He did everything thing a team-mate and friend could ever
do.....even holding the cup.....

I am sure I missed thanking someone as I hand such a good time and help by so many people.
Sorry for any ommisions.
This was the biggest FE Nats in quite a long time despite some last minute dropouts.
My hope is that we all continue to support and grow the FE Nat's each and every year.
Not sure if I will be running as big a program as I have been in the past, but I still plan
to try to attend every year if at all possible. After the final remnants of the travel coma
wear off I plan to post some additional pictures too.
Thanks Again,
Ken Haines :bounce:

Steven, our club shirts are orange and so were some Mojo shirts that Bob was handing out here and there. There were a number of us running the GP batteries. If you did well he gave ya a short.

Our club shirts have our names and namba numbers on them with our MMEU logo on there. They're actually pretty sweet.

Then there were nats shirts too. White with the nats logo on the back. We have some left and will likely sell some once we've recovered from the coma. This one has been particularly hard to recover from. No idea why that is.

Coma.... That's a great way to describe how we feel after the week. It's like a weeks worth of adrenaline just drained out from Sunday morning until today. I'm finally feeling fairly normal with some equilibrium. Getting to bed by 1am to be up by about 5-6am and racing by 8:30am'ish is a major rush of adrenaline and now, it's gone.

I wore orange t-Shirts just because it's my fav. color... trying to blend in with the MMEU's. Orange is also the color of Holland's sports team etc... it's part of my parents heritage that I like to remind myself of.

Again I start last because i'm unsure of speed and staging for 1st place can cause carnage. The esc was not programmed to what I wanted and the boat isn't even close to dialed in yet.

I want to post the Top 10 High Points drivers, as they really did a fantastic job at this event.

1. David Newland 127 pts
2. Doug Twaits, Jr 125 pts
3. Ken Haines 106 pts
4. Mike Ball 78 pts
5. Tyler Garrard 74 pts
6. Fred Siewert 73 pts wins tie
7. Tom Castellani 73 pts
8. Ray Schrauwen 71 pts
9. John Einstein 67 pts
10. Terry Davis 62 pts

For High Points, each driver was allowed their 8 highest point classes towards their High Point total. 8 is the average boat count per driver @ the sign up deadline. You score points based off of entrants for any particular class. For instance, if there are 12 entrants in P Mono, then the winner of P Mono gets 12 points. 2nd place gets 11 points, etc. Obviously, you are rewarded highly for solid placement in the more popular classes. And, this type of calculation allows for the Offshore classes to be included as well.

One notable item. Jason Simms, who has won this before, tied for 11th this year. And, he only ran 5 classes. He was mostly Haines' and Pags' hired pitman for the event. If he would have signed up for just 3 more classes (and popular ones), he would have been right in there at the top. Oh the sacrifices he makes for his friends!

Great job, guys!

Shawn

Dude, you should come play with us on our regular pond. It's not AS crazy but still pretty sweet.

Brian Buaas also had fast time in T-Hydro. Several of these times were record setters.

I just noticed. Douggie turned a quicker heat with his borrowed P mono than Dave did with his Q mono.

Interesting how close the times were for P limited Sport and P Sport Hydro.

Ray - Great video of the Q sport heat. I remember Pags leaning over on the drivers stand to remind me that there was only 25pts between us. That was calming!! ...and then Jimmy yelling in my ear when I was chasing Pags for the lead, 'You HAVE to win this to take the class....do NOT lift!!!!!'. ....... And then....... 'AWE!!!! YOU LIFTED'. :sinking-guy: Good times!!!!!!!!

That last heat my stuffing tube was severely crushed from hitting Bob. The binding was creating tons of heat and when I lifted off the throttle it would slow down way faster than normal. I'm surprised nothing blew up, glad I only had a M447 on there.

Pete I really wanted you to win that class. You gave it a great run. Not the best pitting there looking back now. Sorry about that.

Don't know what you're talking about!! I wouldn't trade Jimmy 'the numbers' Fransisco for any other pitman.

Ray - I STILL can't believe you are only running an M447. That motor has to be much higher KV than the 1527-1Y. Whatever it is, I WANT ONE!

Dave's Q-Mono is pretty fast as I found out in T-Mono, however
he was never really pushed. If you recall Dougie and I had a very aggressive
final heat......which as expected he won again to gain 1st place in the class.

The Numbers. Haha. Remember you're not racing for the podium. ;)

Terry,

We could start a thread all on it's own of Douggie stories!

I loaned him a 1515 1D back at the NATS at Lake Minden, back before most had bought into the "hype" of their quality, and he proceeded to kick my a$$ all over the pond with it in N2-Mono... :)

He's so freaking good!

I loaned him that P mono Pursuit. He had me move the cells up a 1/4" I couldn't possible tell the difference in a 1/4"

I wanted to bring this post back up... The link below should have about 400+ high resolution pictures from the nats. I am relatively new to using this type of equipment so some of them are blurry.

Nice shots Mike!!!!! The resolution is good enough to start diagnosing problems!

I made a collage of 'why you need more curve/angle' on a turn fin. Outside sponson was loading up bad and the fin is popping out of the water!!! Yikes!!
