Racing boats on the pond.....Crop duster and Hang Gliders overhead..... Planes on display on the flight line..... BBQ and a B29 and X1 flight demo and more boat racing what else can you ask for?
What a great District 13 Grand Prix Series race.
SOWEGA Model Boaters hosted its second GP race of the season in Andersonville GA this weekend at the Hodges Hobbies Pond.
We had great weather and the site looked great.
Competitors started showing up Thursday and there was open water practice all day Friday.
Racing started a 11:00 Saturday and we raced till 12:15 and took a BBQ lunch break.
The Georgia Cub flyers flew in for lunch and to display their planes.
We were able to check out their planes and and after lunch Mac Hodges and Buddy Curtis put on a flying demo with Macs 20' Wingspan B29 and the Chuck Yeager X1 Rocket plane flown by Buddy Curtis.
Pictures and videos will be posted.
After the B29 demo we returned back over to the pond to continue racing.
The racing was great.
We ran four rounds and the racing was close and fierce.
What a great bunch of people.... No drama here..... Everyone was there to race and have a great time.
I would like to thank The SOWEGA Gang for getting the site ready and taking it back down.
Thanks Jim Ragan for your help on the CD stand, thanks Norma English for all those hours score keeping and thanks to Rick English for all of your hard work.
Thanks to everyone that helped in the retrieve boat.
The race clock was supplied by the Atlanta Model Boaters and we appreciate the use of it.

Mac Hodges supplied us with a beautiful race site and a great flying demo.
Harold Thomas supplied the BBQ.
It was a perfect race weekend.

I can't express how proud I am to call these racers and their families friends...... No not friends.... Family......
There was a lot of wives at this race and that was great to see.

Colin Amerson wore the 3 and 4 pound catfish out.

It was great to have Bill Zuber and John Equi for the race.
These two have worked so hard over the years to make the IMPBA what it is today and we really appreciate it.
Thanks Bill and John for your support.

On a personnel note.....
I have been racing since 1990 and I had my first perfect score of 1600 points winning four heat races in the 1/6 scale jersey skiff class with a boat I don't own and had never driven before.
Thanks Mr. Doug Smock for the use of your great boat.

If you missed this race event You missed a great one.
We will gather again in July when the Atlanta Model Boaters will host the next Grand Prix race.

Thanks again to everyone and hope to see you in Atlanta.
Ricky B.
