Need help with OSE strut for BJ29

I purchased the OSE strut for my 29 Blackjack. The diameter of the strut is much larger than the stuffing tube, creating a gap that I fill with silicone to prevent water from coming into the stuffing tube. I am thinking of cutting the taper end of the strut, and using the original collet that came with the boat. I just don't if that would work because I don't know if the original collet will fit in the OSE strut.

Has anyone done this modification and can you share what you have done to correct this problem.
