Whatcha puttin' in the 26" mono?

I just received those today. None assembled. We had 13" of snow in the last week. Supposed to be 43 and raining tomorrow so I could run on the flood waters.

Not sure what will go in the 26 rocket. Probably something in the 1515 family. I do have a basic 5000xl without a home. That may go in the rigger though.

I have a set of turn fins and trim tabs for that hull if you need them, might have a rudder also.

Edit: The tabs I have are for a larger hull, but I do have a TFL rudder and turn fins...

You got it bad too Todd. To run that turbine on our pond you'll want to add wheels. Very cool.

I have all the hardware I need. Might have to invent some motor mounts. The mounts that came with some of the boats are too small. The rigger for instance has an itty bitty motor mount. I'll need bigger.

I'm getting close on this one too.

what ya going to use on the tunnel for a lower unit? tfl's of something else? ive been trying to get a whip and modern and vintage 10th scale ready to race in the spring

I have the TFL leg. Dimensionally it's similar to the OS unit but it's not the same. It's actually pretty sweet. No adapter required for FE. It's bolt on. The drive line on that is terribly tight though. I'll have to figure out what's up with that.

I have 9 boats to build in all and 3 to repair before the nats. Wahoo! At least only one of them is scratch built. I'll get help on these. Fred's going to build at least two of them for me. Probably the shovel and the little mono.

I was looking at the Outrage as a possible future build. I'll be interested in what you will do with this. Aside from it being 43" long it just looks like a massive hull.

T.S.Davis
01-13-2014, 01:58 PM
Seems pretty massive to me too. Doesn't weight much at all. Really narrow ride pads for such a large boat. I think John (Doby) has one of these in a different color. His runs pretty well but I don't know what kind of power he threw at it.

This is getting 10s through a Neu 2217/1.5y. That's the plan at least.

Doby's isn't as pretty but, he ran 8-10S in it with a Lehner and a Schulze ESC for open cat. Almost too much power for a 41" hull. His was a Promise Hobby hull, not sold anymore that I know of. Promise hulls were built like tanks and still leaked a bit. The 40" Carbon Kevlar mono I have was really light but, again it had many manufacturing flaws like voids covered by gel coat only and just not the nicest layups in any way. All the trailing edges on my 29" Phantom hull are rounded off and since it weighed in at 3.3lbs empty it took at least 5S to get it moving fairly well. They were cheap though, lol...

Found it. You're right. Not the same.

No aluminum adjusting plates on the tabs? What motor you running in P-open? 1521 1.5D?

T.S.Davis
01-23-2014, 10:16 AM
For what? They just add weight. I can count the times I've used the tabs to adjust ride on one hand. Get the CG and strut right and you don't need to wangle the tabs. Did you see PAGS tabs on his P mono? Looks like a snapping turtle attack. Clearly works for him though so who am I to argue.

It's a 1D Ray. You figure it out. haha I just yanked the whole setup out of my Wildthing. I'm hoping this will be more user friendly. The Wildthing was super fast but it was bugger to drive. White knuckle.

These are built better than most Pursuits. Different materials. Just fer me.:icon_bs::icon_bs::icon_bs: I'll post pics when I get the inards placed. It's all designed and cut. I just keep finding pieces I'm missing. First it was no mounting screws for anything. Then I was one velcro strap short. Then my 603 is expired. No 1/4" brass in my stash. Then it was no .187 flex for the P mono.

Thought I had it all together. Ugh. I could have been done with these already. Still have to finish the cat too. That still needs some engineering.

Sounds like a 2300kv 1527, am I right? I'm just running the old 1521 1.5D and it's going into a Cyberstorm hull. I retired my DF33 to P-limited sprint and maybe P-limited offshore if the Geico blows apart before June.
I like the DF33 with the AQ1800 motor, the width allows it to sail and air out just right yet enough weight to keep it from blowing off in race chop.

I would really like to know how I placed last June with it in P-Limited Sprint, I swear I was really close to the podium. I think I got a 2nd, 1st, and 3rd...??? Never did get the info from Fred.

Looking forward to pics of inside, you know copying is the sincerest form of flattery, lol

T.S. Davis, If you don't have time for that Caudwell I'd be more than happy to take it off your hands. I have a 3.5 Bullet drive all polished out brand new that would work real nice on that hull.

T.S.Davis
01-23-2014, 01:07 PM
haha I'll get to them all. I just have to get these few ready for the winter warmups. I'm only taking 4 boats. 3 of them are brand new and the 4th sucks.

These two are so stiff they'll need very little reinforcement. I put in 1/2" thick glass/foam/glass pad as a battery tray. Epoxy that in place and it makes for a super stiff bottom. No full length rails like the WT. Just short motor mount rails so we'll see how it does.

I'm concerned about running one in P. They do pack a lot of air. Nice and light on their feet when you get them right. Just like the Cyber does. Maybe I'll add a parachute for re-entry into earths atmosphere.

OK Mr. Davis, I just got a Email back from Monica. I was asking for price on the Caudwell tunnel, she said it still was not available yet and neither was a price. She also said they were still modifying sponson design. How do you have one?:confused1: :bash::biggrin:

I was offered that hull as well but decided to wait for the actual production one to be released.

They didn't want to send one but I talked them in to it. In an effort to pick up the pace, Fred is going to put it together so we can take it to Phoenix.

I have a relationship with TFL where I help them with development.

I'm not sure how it will run but the construction seems good and it looks as cool in person as it does in the pics.

The lower unit is pretty slick too. There's something sticking in the output shaft we have to figure out.

Well, the portion of the fleet going to AZ is about 99.715% RTR.

haha I changed that again at the end of the season. So it's about a 1/2" shallower than most JAE and it now has a modified ski up the center.

Doesn't feel as hunty as it did before. It's still not very fast though. We'll see how it does.
